Chad Post – ‚Fresh Reign‘ + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Ooo that’s a good question. Right now I’ve been making the ‘Painkiller’ at home which is a tropical rum based drink with pineapple juice, coconut cream, and a splash of orange. So delicious and definitely fits the theme of the album

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

After releasing three singles last year leading up to this, my new EP ‘Fresh Reign’ is coming out. I am so proud of this body of work. I spent so much time in the studio curating this sound. If you’ve watched me before, you know the visuals are a huge part of what I do. There really isn’t any part of the creative process and visuals that I don’t have my hands on. Leading up to this release I created a minute and a half video of my entire career in video format. It was so hard to narrow all of my music videos down to certain shots, but I really wanted to recap my five year music career, so I can begin the ‘fresh’ era. Show dates in New York City will be later in the spring! I haven’t performed a true full show since before the pandemic, so I’m stoked to be able to again.

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I mean honestly you put dinosaurs in my head and now that’s all I want. My nephew is almost three and he is OBSESSED with dinosaurs right now. He wants to get in the car to “go into the books” we’re reading, so he can save the Triceratops from the T-Rex. So yeah, dinosaurs on earth would be it for me. Or Tupac still being alive. That would be sick.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Coincidentally, I try to stay away from branding and labels, unless it’s really strategic, like an adidas tracksuit. Otherwise, I never really want people to know what I’m wearing. Aesthetically and in my craft, I love anything gold and shiny. The Gilded Age is a major influence of mine—anything elaborate and fancy. I’m currently making a jacket with hunter green velvet and gold rope and tassels. I have no idea what I’m doing on a sewing machine so my friend’s mom is doing it with me. I draw a lot of influence from Lana Del Rey for how to tastefully make ordinary looks into classic and retro. My other influence is New York City street fashion and queer culture, of course.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My new EP ‚Fresh Reign‘ is a clean and inspiring new pop sound that encompasses dance, hyper pop, and a soul crushing ballad—all yearning for some form of love. The rich, yet dark lyrics and melodies accompanied by carefree, yet emotional production are tied together in this departure. Most of what I write about is somewhat centered around being a hopeless romantic, so I would be remiss to say love isn’t at the center. Exploring the cosmic and daggering sides of love comes through on these records. Sentiments like “I don’t need you” can come across very differently when put to a sound that is energetic versus a sound that ss emotional. The words and their delivery hold all of the impact—that is something I love playing with. How can I make feeling badass after a heartbreak sound cool, while maintaining authenticity and realness. It isn’t all happy, but it isn’t all sad. The sounds in this album truly resonate with that.

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Oil painting and design drawing are my other passions that I don’t talk as much about. They are the space I can go to when creating that doesn’t have an agenda or end goal—I’m just creating to keep myself fresh. It is so easy to get burnt out when you are living in one industry every day. So when I need a break from singing and songwriting, it’s so nice to be able to create something that doesn’t have a hope or aspiration attached to it. Just making art to make art is something that gets lost when you’ve been making (a lot of) music for so long. Ironically, I have been commissioned to do some paintings now, because I realized I was pretty good with tactile design and color. Watching a side hobby turn into something people are impressed by is freeing and also rewarding.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I write and co-produce all of my music, as well as create and shoot all of the videos. All of the concepts are my ideas and inspirations. It can be a lot of work and taxing, but right now I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I love fan interactions and connecting with people. Being recognized on the street (which has only happened about 5 times) is so surreal! So don’t ever hesitate to stop me.

You have no idea how much I appreciate shoutouts and reposts on social media. It means so much to me because I put endless days and hours into my work and when people want to share that, I am like, woah. Very grateful for those.

I write down every lyric, word, and record every melody in my voice notes. The songs I am putting out aren’t necessarily even current. I may have written them years ago, or first started them when I was a teenager. This EP has a mix of songs I just wrote this year and songs that I need to be out there.

I have been performing in New York City for nearly a decade, and my first single dropped exactly 5 years ago. I’m in this for the long haul. I won’t ever stop making music, so keep listening and let me know what you like! Also, I am always looking for a manager who shares my same vision and beliefs.

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I didn’t grow up in a musical household, but—we were ALWAYS listening to music. My mom was always blasting the radio or CDs, and always brought us home the latest hot pop album. We went to concerts. Music was a huge part of our upbringing. Learning to sing and song write came in the form of studying the pop music I loved. I was in and out of voice lessons since about ten years old, but only started taking it seriously at about sixteen. My voice coach at the time would have me adlib melody over continuous chords and notes she would improvise, and that’s how I realized how much I love writing songs. Then I moved to New York and found a master vocal coach. I had a couple of producers reach out to me after hearing a video online. That is when things started really taking off creatively.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

If you weren’t an artist, what would you be doing?

Running a coffee shop and owning a chocolate company. I worked in coffee and chocolate management for years and I love and miss it. I had write ups in publications for my espresso shots and latte art. I really miss that environment. I made my best friends (to this day) working in coffee. I would also start a gourmet chocolate company. I’ve been making chocolate bars, candies, and chocolate truffles since I was literally 8. I then worked at several high end (and well known) chocolate companies during my time being a struggling artist in New York. Chocolate is life to me. I would love starting a company. Maybe I still will.
