Andrew Smith – „Twenties“ – Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hey Twisted Male! I’m Andrew.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My new song Twenties comes out August 25th. I’m proud of this one and what it represents. The song talks about my struggles with comparison. I think we can all relate to watching other people’s lives through our phone screens, wondering if we’re “doing this right.” Having taken a break from performing during the pandemic, I’m looking forward to taking Twenties and all my new songs that I’ve written the past couple years on the road later this year. Stay tuned.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

-I started performing when I was 8 years old.
-I love my friends and family so much.
-I will always try to find some type of light by the end of my songs.
-I am an advocate for mental health and strive to help members of my community who need support in this area.
-I’m a Swiftie.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I love this question! I love dressing up, smelling nice, and putting in some extra time to feel my best when I’m going out. J.Crew has been my style go-to for years. Love a statement polo, a pair of tech shorts, and some fun sneakers. My music is clean and thoughtful, just like my style.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Like so many songwriters, I write about my own experiences. I came out a little over a year ago, so my music the past couple of years is inspired by my relationships, therapy sessions, conversations with family, etc. There’s really so much to write about! All in all, I like to self-reflect in my writing. I would like to say, it’s amazing how much easier writing becomes when you actually start living with your whole heart. A theme throughout my music has always been a kind of lighthearted optimism, but since coming out, I hope to bring a deeper honesty and inspiration to the often challenging and confusing experiences we all navigate on the road to self-acceptance.

6. Besides music, do you have any special talents?

I love expressing my creativity in other ways like videography, graphic design, and comedy. I just love making things!

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Show and tell. Remember show and tell in elementary school? I often get that same type of excitement before a show, especially when I’m sharing new songs. My favorite type of show is when I’m performing for a smaller audience in an intimate setting. I love telling stories, making people laugh, and inviting them into my life.

8. How did you learn to sing/to write/to play??

I took piano lessons as a kid, and participated in local community theatre productions. I also attended Berklee College of Music where I got to hone my writing skills. You’re never done learning or growing. I would say some of the best ways to learn how to be better is to learn from your friends. I am so inspired by my friends.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What is your most recent “liked” song on Spotify?

You’re Still The One by Teddy Swims. Shania’s original version is one of my favorite songs of all time and the way Teddy interprets it is just so powerful.
