Aiza – „Majimbo“ + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Get yourself your favorite refreshing fizzy drink on ice! With bits of fresh fruits floating in it. You need to feel like you’re on a vacation. That’s the vibe.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I just dropped my new single Majimbo and it’s the feel-good afropop track of the century! Inspired by Kenyan internet star, Elsa Majimbo, this bop produced by C The Reason (@c.the.reason) will turn every sidewalk into a fashion runway. We just dropped an amazing video for it, which was filmed in Ghana earlier this year so make sure to go check it out! I’ll be releasing new music all summer and releasing my debut album in September! I’m so excited about it and I can’t wait for y’all to bump it on repeat.

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I really want to believe that somewhere there exists a time machine where all dimensions meet, like in the series “Lovecraft Country”.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

It would need to be super colorful with a little left-field edge, like my music. My songs are very upbeat and it’s a fusion of different genres I love, mainly afro-pop and R&B. Something you can you can be comfortable to dance in as well… the brand that comes to mind is ÖFUURE, an award-winning and Toronto-based African fashion brand featuring beautiful pieces with vibrant prints and bold patterns.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My music is very uplifting and empowering. In fact, each song off my upcoming debut album was inspired by a lesson I’ve learned to be the woman I am today. I want to inspire my listeners to be honest with themselves, to love themselves and have the guts to show up authentically in the world.

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Alongside my music, I’m the executive producer and co-host of my own award-winning original talk-show series for CBC titled “Real Blackity Talk” (follow us @realblackity). I’m an actor as well! I played the role of superhero Sierra Ectoplex on Netflix’s original series Jupiter’s Legacy, Maya Bronte on the CBC/Netflix sitcom Workin’ Moms, and I’m the voice of Jazzy on the CBC Kids’ hit animated series Jeremy & Jazzy.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I was born in Montreal, I speak French and I’m Burundian 🇨🇦 🇧🇮

They call me the Certified Afro-Bop Queen because I serve bops on bops on bops!

My sister @callmekamana and I are the hosts of our own original talk-show called “Real Blackity Talk” – go check it out @realblackity.

I’m very big into manifestation and I believe that we are all capable of creating the life of our dreams. If there’s one thing I’mma do, it’s hype. you. UP!

I’m your future celebrity crush

How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I’ve always loved to sing and I’ve had a natural knack for writing from as far back as I can remember. I started out performing in high school musicals, hitting up every talent show and jam sessions I could in Montreal and with a lot of hard work, determination and strokes of good luck, made it to where I am today!

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

The ability to master any musical instrument as soon as I touch it OR the ability to speak and understand every single language in the world.
