Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!
I am Nicola Kuperus and I co-write the music for ADULT. I am also the lyricists and vocalist.
I am Adam Lee Miller and I co-write the music for ADULT. I am also the studio engineer and mixer.
Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
Our latest single Fools (We Are..) was released on November 16th of 2021 for our upcoming ninth album Becoming Undone on Dais Records. The video for Fools (We Are…) was created entirely by Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller of ADULT. Come take the plunge and watch the video here
Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!
We always have a period or a full stop after our name (but it is never spoken, it is silent when spoken) and is always in capitals – ADULT.
We are NOT electroclash and take offense to that title – we don’t like genres at all, but the closest category for ADULT.would be synth-punk.
We started with our first 12” release on our own label Ersatz Audio in 1998 and have NEVER sold out our principles once in 23 years.
We stand for outsider and queer culture.
For all the people that say “Oh, are they still around?” Yes, we have never gone away, where did you go?
What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
Our brand is ADULT. and our style is our own.
What’s your songwriting process?
We go into the studio together and it is silent. We break that silence working with machines (usually), running them through unusual signal paths, using planned or random approaches, looking for a sound, a line, a lyric, a performance, that we have never heard before in our own work or in others. Once we find a spark or a seed that excites our desire for originality and mirrors one of the multiple emotions living inside of us we proceed to push and pull at the sounds until we have the beginning of a demo. We leave that demo for a period of time so it can ferment or decay – maybe die. When we come back to the demo, if it still speaks to us (which can be days or months later), we proceed to flush the song out into something that at some moment we intuitively know it is complete. When we leave the studio the silence is filled with a new song stuck in our heads.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would like it if bands could actually make a living wage. Things like streaming services need to pay more / record stores need to become the center of diverse and interesting culture again / people need to buy music again – everyone loves to use the word sustainability unless it relates to musician’s careers.
Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
The question would be: what is the purpose of anything? We do not have the answer to this question but we would like to have that answer.
