A festival of light – The Flying Flames by Ingo Maurer

This year we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Flying Flames, a lamp from the Munich manufacturer Ingo Maurer that has reinterpreted candlelight. It is the result of the visionary design philosophy of Moritz Waldemeyer, Ingo Maurer and their team and, since its creation in 2013, has gained a permanent place as a modern lighting icon above many festive tables.

The system, a fusion of seemingly floating LED flames and a minimalist downlight, pays homage to candlelight with the advantage of contemporary flexibility. Here the user becomes a designer: the canopy serves as a canvas on which the light points can be arranged as desired using magnets. Everyone can create their own personal light ritual because the elements can be adjusted in number, color and position. This is how an individual work of art is created.

Holidays are traditionally a game of the senses in which light plays a central role. Flying Flames is the elegant answer to the desire for a lighting experience that not only illuminates the room, but gives it character and depth. With dimmable LED candles and optional downlights that precisely reproduce even the finest nuances of the color world, every environment becomes a stage for an intimate light spectacle.
The technology remains as discreet as it is well thought out: an integrated electronic ballast ensures the invisible energy supply, while special lengths of the delicate cables underline the slim elegance of the construction. Design and functionality are celebrated in every component – from the canopy to the downlight. While the world shines in festive splendor, „Flying Flames“ offers the opportunity to integrate this splendor into everyday life even outside of the holidays. It is an invitation to think beyond the seasonal and to see light not just as a necessity, but as an essential component of a livable space.
