When the stresses of day-to-day tasks weigh you down, it can feel impossible to fit extra wellness tasks into your already packed to-do list. Luckily, a few small improvements in your daily routine can mean the difference between simply surviving and truly thriving.

Small changes can have big results, so take a look at these tips to find a better routine and start feeling as healthy and happy as you deserve.

1. Invest in Skincare

A good skincare routine not only helps you look great, but it can also make you feel great, too. Your skin works hard to protect your body from harmful pollutants. Caring for your skin simply helps it do its job more effectively.

A skincare practice is a powerful form of self care. Whether investing in topical treatments and cleaners, a dermal repair complex or skin-nourishing supplements, incorporating a few solid habits can go a long way in boosting your confidence — both inside and out.

2. Set a Schedule

If the only schedule you adhere to belongs to work, consider penciling in a few other priorities. Having set times for even basic tasks decreases the sensation of overwhelm by providing peace of mind that all your needs will be met in their own time.

Most importantly, a schedule affirms that you’re capable of making it all happen. A daily or weekly agenda does a lot to relieve the mental burden that causes unpleasant stress.

3. Practice Mindfulness

Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting cross-legged and belting rhythmic vocalizations. Many people find time to practice mindfulness through deep breathing, listening to music or painting for the fun of it.
It may be impossible to completely empty your mind, but it helps to imagine clearing out some of the mental clutter. Many mindfulness apps and podcasts even have features and episodes geared for beginners, so you won’t be completely lost taking the first steps in mind and body awareness.

4. Get Some Sleep

A good night’s rest is crucial for optimal functioning. Losing sleep can wreak havoc on your immune system, make it harder to focus and lower your capacity for emotional regulation.

If you look forward to your nighttime hours to unwind and relax, do so carefully. Try including a “digital sundown”, choosing books or music instead of bright screens for at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Set a regular sleep schedule and stick to it.

5. Eat Right

It’s no secret that a balanced diet helps you live a longer, stronger life. Convenience food has never been more accessible and inexpensive, and with a busy schedule it can be tricky to find time to cook. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to eat healthily, however, and making a few simple swaps can make a huge difference.

Instead of snacking on processed foods, pack a piece of fruit or chopped vegetables to eat between meals. At the table, pack your plate with vegetables and make sure to drink plenty of water. You don’t have to ditch your favorite treats — just fill up on nutrient-dense foods before indulging.

6. Exercise

Moving your body every day releases much-needed endorphins, but for many people, getting daily exercise feels like an inaccessible ask. However, when you’re trying to better your overall wellness, it’s a nonnegotiable part of your routine.

You don’t need an expensive gym membership to get exercise. Even dancing in your bedroom, stretching or going for a walk with a friend work to release pent up energy.

7. Make Time for Hobbies

With all the responsibilities you have on your plate, it’s important to carve time in your schedule for both work and play in order to maintain a full, balanced life. It is far more convenient to crash on the couch and scroll through your phone, but your spare time could be better spent investing in things you love.

Whether you’re picking up an old instrument or learning a new skill, focus on the process and not the product. All that matters is you spend time engaged in something that you truly enjoy.

Maintaining wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. By simply switching up your daily routine, you can live longer, feel healthier and be happier.
