ZENITH CHRONOMASTER SOLO SPORT – THE QUINTESSENCE OF HIGH FREQUENCY

Few calibres have shaped modern watchmaking quite like the El Primero. Introduced by ZENITH in 1969 as the world’s first integrated automatic high-frequency chronograph movement, it set new technical benchmarks with its 5 Hz regulating organ and rapidly became one of the industry’s most renowned calibres. Yet the El Primero was more than just an exceptionally high-performance chronograph; from the very beginning, the movement embodied a fundamental quality: the unique sensation of high-frequency precision. With the CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport, ZENITH explores this dimension through an interpretation of the collection that is more direct and focused on the essentials. For the first time, the CHRONOMASTER appears as a three-hand watch designed for everyday versatility, while preserving the high-frequency identity that has defined the El Primero for over five decades. By dispensing with the chronograph display, the CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport refocuses attention on the qualities that have always distinguished the El Primero beyond mere timekeeping: a high oscillation frequency, unparalleled precision, and exceptional comfort on the wrist. The result is a watch designed not for a specific purpose or occasion, but for the rhythm of daily life itself.

The CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport is neither overtly sporty nor strictly elegant; instead, it accompanies its wearer naturally through the various moments a day may bring. Its 40 mm stainless steel case combines compact proportions with a striking, architectural presence on the wrist, while the unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel lends the model a modern, functional touch and plays a key role in its 20 ATM water resistance.

The CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport is powered by the El Primero 3620 caliber—a derivative of the El Primero 3600 chronograph movement. This automatic manufacture caliber operates at a frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour), maintaining the high-frequency performance for which the El Primero has been renowned since its inception. Equipped with a silicon escapement, a stop-seconds mechanism, and a star-shaped bidirectional winding rotor, it delivers a power reserve of 60 hours.

The dial plays a pivotal role in visually expressing the high-frequency performance concealed within. Crafted from ceramic, the design features a textured surface defined by a repeating 45° „Z“ motif, reflecting the dynamic rhythm of the movement beneath. Depending on the model, this pattern is engraved into either sunray-finished white ceramic or polished black or brown ceramic, allowing the same design language to take on distinct forms of expression.

This visual identity extends to the counterweight of the seconds hand, while the „shark-tooth“ minute track encircling the dial offers a highly segmented time display inspired by historic ZENITH models. Together, these elements create a dial architecture inextricably linked to the world of El Primero.

The CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport is worn on a three-link stainless steel bracelet secured by a ZENCLASP™ folding clasp.

The CHRONOMASTER Solo Sport is available in three versions featuring ceramic dials in black, white, and brown, all displaying hours, minutes, seconds, and the date. The black model is also available in a version without a date, a streamlined design that will particularly appeal to purists.
