When dinosaurs meet sneakers: VEJA x Muséum National d’Histoire naturelle in Paris

VEJA, in collaboration with the Muséum National d’Histoire naturelle (National Museum of Natural History) in Paris, is launching a new kids‘ collection that takes the Esplar model back in time.

The collaboration centers on five dinosaurs: Triceratops, Diplodocus, Pteranodon, Stegosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus rex. The shoe’s design blends science and imagination. The teams at VEJA and the museum placed great emphasis on scientific accuracy: the illustrations on the uppers are based on paleontological standards—the tails don’t drag on the ground, and the nostrils are anatomically correct. The typography of the names on the shoes is also inspired by the handwritten labels on the museum’s old display cases.

The model is designed specifically for children: the sneaker features Velcro closures for easy, independent dressing and a brown outsole that is stain-resistant and durable enough for everyday adventures. A red detail at the heel provides a striking color contrast, while the insole is printed with dinosaur silhouettes.

Since 2005, VEJA has been creating sneakers in a unique way, combining social projects, economic justice, and sustainable materials. For this model, made in Brazil, VEJA uses traceable organic leather (O.T.) and a lining made from 100% recycled polyester. The insole contains 25% organic cotton, and the outsole is made from 35% Amazonian rubber.

Proceeds from this collection support the museum’s ongoing missions, including scientific research, education, and ecosystem conservation.
