The Pukka Orchestra – „Every Man and Woman is a Star“ + Exclusive Interview

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

My preference would be a nice red wine. I find that just about everything goes better with a nice vino tinto. There have certainly been a few occasions during the making of this album when the inspiration of a little vin rouge aided in the process.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

The new Pukka Orchestra album, „Chaos Is Come Again“ began as we were working on Graeme Williamson’s posthumous solo album „Because You Were There“, a collection of songs Graeme had written but never properly recorded over the last 40 years while living with his wife Iris in Glascow Scotland.

The timeless depths of Graeme’s writing both musically and lyrically is staggering and it caused me to go back and listen to our earlier Pukka Orchestra recordings that were made in the 80s but had a very limited release. We realized however that we were never satisfied with the results of those recordings, as the songs were originally recorded in the 80s when the synthesizer ruled the world and guitars took a back seat. Then we thought how fun it would be to revisit them and update the songs with more guitars etc. Although Graeme’s songs, voice and the production quality were stellar, they lacked the earthiness, groove and soul that guitars bring to music  (ironic in that Graeme, Tony and myself all played and wrote mostly on guitar).

So Tony Duggan-Smith, Iris Williamson, Frank Davies and myself made the decision to update these songs and fill the vacuum that was left behind when the band dispersed in 1989, resulting in these new enhanced versions of limited release Pukka recordings with Williamson at the helm.

Our first video from the album is of the song „Every Man And Woman Is A Star“. A message we think the world may want to here at this challenging moment in history.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

We LOVE Guitar

The incredible writing of Graeme Williamson speaks for itself

We Love Bob Dylan and The Beatles

It’s important that we retain a sense of humour even when time and situation make it difficult

We believe Every Man And Woman Is A Star

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

The one conspiracy theory I wish was true is that the earth is flat. That way we could walk off the edge and float around in space.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I would stop the greedy billionaires from ripping us off and not compensating us for our creations. (Don’t get me started)

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Our songs speak of love, life and justice with a quirky tinge of humour

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

A question we’ve never been asked is…“What is the bands favourite colour?“

The answer…. Chartreuse = happiness. growth, energy and inspiration.
