Josh Hicks – „Eyes On You“ + Exclusive Interview

1. What kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music

Spiced rum and ginger ale or ginger beer. I am not too fussy. As long as it has a bit of warmth and
kick, I am good. Kind of like the music.

2. Please give us an update about your new single ‚Eyes On You‘?

„Eyes On You“ is probably the happiest track I have ever released. It is soulful, funky and feel-good
without trying too hard. It is about that little moment of knowing someone has their eyes on you in
the best way. It has already had love from Radio 2 and BBC Introducing, which I still cannot quite
believe. I wrote it to bring a bit of joy, and it seems to be doing just that.

3. Which harmless conspiracy theory do you wish were true?

That Hogwarts is real and some of us just missed our letters. I love the idea that there is a magical
school out there hidden from us Muggles, and somewhere someone is riding a broomstick to class
and sipping butterbeer after a long day. I always get sorted into both Gryffindor and Slytherin
depending on the quiz, which feels about right. A mix of heart and hustle with a little bit of chaos.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I would say it is a mix of retro soul with a modern edge. Think vintage pieces with character, worn in
a way that feels fresh. Somewhere between Amy Winehouse?s eyeliner and Daniel Simmons‘
spring and summer fits. A bit moody, a bit bold, but always with soul.

5. Tell us more about your songs. Topics? Messages?

My songs usually come from real emotion or moments I have not quite made sense of yet. They
touch on love, emotional distance, and the fear of being too much or not enough. But there is also a
quiet thread of innocence in a lot of my writing. I like capturing those moments that feel pure or
hopeful even when things are messy. If you listen to my music or look up the lyrics, I think you will
find a mix of vulnerability, honesty, and curiosity that reflects how I see the world.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I used to be a competitive ballroom and Latin dancer, so I have a decent sense of rhythm and
movement. I am also really good at remembering people?s drink orders. Yet if you asked me what I
did yesterday, I could not tell you. Not exactly a headline skill, but it comes in handy.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?

– I write all my own lyrics and melodies, sometimes with the help of producers or co-writers, and
they absolutely deserve their credit

– I am Welsh, though I am not the type to shout it from the rooftops. I keep things low-key

– I care more about connection than perfection. That will always be the most important thing

– When it comes to trends, I like to feel like I am steering the ship, not just catching a ride. I trust my
gut and go with what feels right emotionally, even if it is not what everyone else is doing

– My music is for people who feel things deeply and do not always know how to say it

8. The road so far? Who or what was your biggest support?

My parents, without a doubt. I know it sounds cliché, but they really have supported me every step
of the way. From being my roadies and tour managers to helping financially, booking gigs, and
plugging me to people they meet wherever they go. Then there is the support from friends,
collaborators, early listeners, and even strangers who have messaged to say my music helped
them. My ex-manager Karen Taylor believed in me early on, and Shatterjack, the producer I worked
with for about three years, gave me the confidence and guidance I needed. They taught me how to
understand the music industry in a way that I will always be grateful for. I have also been lucky  enough to support Natalie Imbruglia live at In It Together Festival, and I collaborated with Emeli Sandé on an unreleased track. All of these moments and people have helped shape the artist I am
becoming.

9. A question you would like to be asked but have never been asked in an interview before?
(+ Answer)

Honestly, I have definitely thought about this before, but I cannot remember what the question was.
That said, someone once told me my music reminded them of a bougie cocktail bar or a jazz club.
So if you asked me where my music would live, I would probably say somewhere with low lighting,
velvet seating, a bit of soul in the air, and a sense that something honest is always just about to be said.
