Jakob Longfield – „Of Daydreams And Letting Go“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Either a cold beer or simply A LOT of water haha, since these were the two drinks I drank when I was hiking through the alps, a trip that heavily inspired my EP „Of Daydreams And Letting Go“.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I already mentioned my new EP „Of Daydreams And Letting Go“, which includes the two singles „Daydreams“ and „Not Sure Anymore“ and was released August 2nd. The two singles were accompanied by two lyric videos, which can be found on YouTube. I have one more surprise though, a music video for „Morning Light“, the main song of the EP, which will be released this month. I also play some more live gigs this year, mostly in the south of Germany, with the following dates:

Bad Bellingen – 17.8.

StraMu Würzburg – 6.9.

Pavillon Sindelfingen – 14.9.

NIO House Frankfurt – 30.11.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

As a big lover of the TV show Rick and Morty, I would really like to believe the theory of parallel universes. I dont even know if that’s a conspiracy theory or if it is actually a scientific theory not yet proven. Parallel universes and the travel between them would be such a game changer, especially when it comes to global issues like climate change. I even read a novel about it a while back, so it’s definitely something that fascinates me.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

This answer will be two-sided:

For the creation of my music I would answer with ‚Vinted‘, so not a particular style or brand but rather many different ones combined, mostly second hand. This fits with the creation of my EP, since we made many sounds from used instruments we found at a junk shop. It probably means that I am a big fan of using old things to create new art.

If we are just talking about the music itself, you would go for outdoor brands or clothes you wear for hiking. Sometimes a little rough, but very warm and cozy overall. A big fleece would be perfect.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Let’s start from the top:

„Daydreams“, the first single release introduces the new sound of the EP as organic indie-folk elements characterize the song. The lyrics tell of daydreams and the inner conflict between one’s own ideas and reality.

„Not Sure Anymore“, the second single, deals with growing up, shattered dreams and a downward spiral that resembles depression. Despite the heavy themes, the warm production conveys a hopeful message that everything will be alright in the end.

„Morning Light“ was inspired by a spiritual experience while crossing the Alps in the summer of 2023, which was one of the most intense and happiest times of my life. The song captures the magic of a hiking day, where I set out before sunrise to find inner peace and forgiveness. Throughout the song you can hear sounds of birds, footsteps, rain and waterfalls that I recorded myself. This soundscape transports the listener directly to the hiking trail and reinforces the message of letting go that runs like a common thread through the EP.

„Good Enough“ closes the EP with a simplistic and encouraging message: You are good enough. The song is about the challenges and uncertainties of life, but also about recognising and accepting your own strengths.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

A couple:

I can make a sound that’s similar to a harmonica, only using my mouth and lips for it.

And, my ears are pretty flexible, so I can fold them and put them into my ears if I want to, an easy way to escape the noise if you feel like it.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

1. I make music because it’s my passion, not because I want to be rich or famous.

2. I like to change things up: If you listen to my earlier works, you notice a big shift in the sound. This is also due to the people I worked with, but also due to my creative imagery. I find it boring to do the same thing over and over again, so you can expect new things whenever a new project of mine drops in the future 🙂

3. I am very ambitious and perfectionistic.

4. I am a team player. Working with others and making music with them is the best thing in the world.

5. I am human. Sometimes, I try to hold back the perfectionist ambition so listeners can hear the process of making music and maybe hearing a small mistake, which makes the experience more real and intimate.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

My mother is a classical singer and taught me how to sing from a young age. I then started learning the drums when I was a kid, picked up guitar during my teens and taught myself the piano when I was 18. I started writing songs when I was 16 but was pretty bad at first. The project Jakob Longfield really started in 2020, when I felt like I had written enough songs that were good and could tell a story.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Are you content with the music you make?

I can confidently say that I am (as you can see, I’ve asked myself before, however, I have never been asked in an interview).

The music that I wanted to make shifted and if you listen to my discography, you’ll definitely hear it. However, I liked the music I made back then and do like the music I make now. The music always felt right at that particular point in my life where I created it. To end this interview, I feel though that my new EP is the best thing I made until now 🙂
