The Urban Sea – „Your Enemy“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

Home-Brewed Kombucha – It’s indie, it’s a little unpredictable, fermented, funky, and it’s got a bit of kick.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Our new single My Own Time just dropped, bringing that ‘moving on and letting go’ energy we can all relate to. We’ve also got a killer video that’s equal parts bonfire and feels, so check that out too. Our 6 track EP “Sunsets and Silhouettes” is coming early next year, with some East Coast shows in the pipeline to celebrate!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

  • Our sound has evolved as much as our lineup. We’ve had more members than the Avengers

  • Our music balances the heart and energy of indie roots with the swagger of rock. We like to think it’s a soundtrack for those moments when you’re figuring life out, but still want to have a good time.

  • We met through a mix of Brisbane’s music scene and some ‘Find-a-Musician’ sites – kind of like Tinder but for bandmates. Luckily no catfish or stand-ups, just good vibes and tunes.

  • We’re dog people. Our dog Loki, is always around. He’s practically been in every band photo shoot and the jangle of his collar has been recorded in multiple songs. Judging by the amount of pats he gets on walks to the park, we should probably get him on stage.

  •  Our band name reflects our vibe – caught between the chaos and calm. We’re inspired by the ebb and flow of life, and our music tries to capture that push and pull.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

A Classic Band Tee from a Vintage Store – Worn and a little faded, but timeless, comfortable and full of stories.

5. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

We’re 100% on board with the theory that Australia doesn’t exist. There’s something comforting about not actually being real – no pressure, no worries, and a lifetime of strange wildlife all explained away as “props.” If we’re just characters in a cosmic art project, then all our poor life choices are just part of the script right?

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

We’d love to see more support for smaller artists both from the industry and the audience. Imagine if audiences were as hungry for new sounds as they are for the local cover band. There’s an insane amount of incredible artists in Brisbane alone and yet we’ve seen so many play to half empty rooms. The Aussie scene is full to the brim with talent and should be thriving.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Our songs dive deep into the push and pull of life—whether it’s relationships, growth, or trying to break out of the daily grind. My Own Time is about walking away from something that no longer serves you, but we’ve also got tracks that’ll make you reflect, dance, or just air-drum aggressively.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened on stage?

A fan did a backflip on the dance floor and took out our bassist’s girlfriend in the process. Somehow, he kept playing through the chaos – though judging by the look on her face, he probably should’ve stopped. Awkward…
