The Loro Piana Icons

They were introduced over the years to match precise functions and were designated for specific activities, then grown into veritable classics for every use. Born to respond to the needs of a certain lifestyle, the Icons were conceived as solutions for specific moments and ways of living. The inspiration was often Loro Piana’s passion for sports like sailing, horse-riding, classic cars, skiing, and the lifestyle around it. Some Icons were born from the world of sports, while others emerged from a refined art of living defined by travel, life in the countryside, leisure, and everyday elegance in the city. The Maison gives its discerning clientele solutions to be elegant and comfortable, wherever they are. Effortless and sophisticated, the Icons represent the values and heritage of the House. Emblems of craftsmanship, they embody the spirit and excellence of Loro Piana, masterfully merging functionality, comfort, versatility, combined with meticulous attention to detail. Defined by a distinct silhouette, perfectly balancing volumes, they offer impeccable style, comfort, and performance.

Being the fruit of a keen reflection on form and function, the Loro Piana Icons are timeless pieces that have stayed as they are while continuing to be perfected season after season, with new interpretations being added in terms of shapes and a wider array of fabrics. What remains throughout is the meticulous attention to detail, the careful mix of fabrications, the sense of timelessness and, most of all, the idea that what is useful should also be beautiful.

Icons born from the world of sports

The Horsey®

The Horsey® jacket was originally created in 1992 for the Italian Equestrian Olympic team on the occasion of the Barcelona Olympic Games. Every detail serves a purpose, from the notched zip flap that allows the jacket to fold perfectly whilst sitting on the saddle, to the soft, rustle-free fabric with horn buttons that do not clink, preserving the silent communication between horse and rider. Adjustable and adaptable, these innovative solutions born on the field translate seamlessly into everyday life, as the Horsey® continues to capture movement and flexibility in one iconic and sophisticated design.

The Loro Piana Icer

A champion of technical performance and impeccable elegance, the Loro Piana Icer was launched in 1996 from the idea of having a cashmere ski jacket, water-repellent and wind resistant thanks to the innovative Storm System® treatment. All the details of this jacket are designed to meet skiers’ needs: the collar in knitted cashmere creates the effect of a warm scarf; the raglan sleeves guarantee the utmost freedom of movement, the cuffs have tabs which ensure they fasten perfectly to keep out the cold; there is a waist drawstring to adapt the line of the jacket and ensure a perfect fit, and the fastening splits at the waist for greater comfort when sitting on the chairlift or taking on a challenging piste. The Loro Piana Icer also looks impeccable, making it perfect for use in the city during the winter months: its sleek, clean line and carefully designed proportions mean it can even be slipped over a suit jacket.

The Loro Piana Bomber

The Loro Piana Bomber was born in 2003 out of a love for sailing. Designed with comfort and versatility at its core, it is defined by a refined athletic silhouette, immediately recognisable by its elastic cuffs and two- way zip closure. The creation of the Loro Piana Bomber is closely linked to the material it was originally crafted from: Windmate®. It is an association of microfibre, teamed with cashmere to create a refined, high-performance material with a strong connection to the Maison’s unique heritage. The true originality of the Loro Piana Bomber lies in the inspired pairing of these two exceptional materials, giving rise to a fully reversible jacket. Worn with Wind microfibre facing out, it is the perfect companion for daily escapes on the open sea. When reversed to reveal its cashmere side, it becomes an elegantly effortless piece for a drink or a dinner upon reaching port.

The Roadster

Designed for driving, the Roadster is the Icon launched in 2004 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Concorso di Eleganza Villa d’Este on lake Como. Every detail of the Roadster is conceived with the driver in mind. The distinctive collar can be fastened perfectly for full wind protection behind the wheel, and left open like lapels when not driving, lending an effortlessly elegant attitude. Vents behind the sleeves ensure complete freedom of movement, while capacious pockets and a double closure complete a jacket that is as functional as it is refined. Versatile, lightweight, warm and wind resistant, it has a sleek line that allows one to be at the wheel, and not only, freely. Dedicated to speed and style, it represents the affinity between Loro Piana and the world of classic cars. It offers freedom of movement thanks to its impeccable construction.

Icons born from an elegant lifestyle

The Voyager

Launched in 2006, the Voyager is an easy over jacket meant for flexible use. Straight in cut, it has a half belt with tabs and buttons on the back that allows to modulate volume according to the weight and shape of what is worn underneath. Designed for people who are always on the move, the Voyager was conceived on a Milan-New York flight. Functional and beautiful, it exemplifies the Maison’s active elegance. Its main function inspired the name, Voyager. Tailor-made for those who travel often and need comfortable, practical outerwear that fits in with a business dress code, but also perfect for leisure and time out. True travellers will no doubt appreciate the numerous pockets, the water-repellent fabric, well-proportioned cut and adaptable line of the back and waist. The length is also ideal for driving, ensuring optimum comfort and ease of movement.

The Spagna

Vibrant simplicity, powerful harmony. As soft as a cardigan, at once formal in its neat aplomb and easy in use, the Spagna jacket was introduced in 1998. Inspired by the Spanish officer’s uniform, it is characterised by the standing collar, buttonless cuffs, double patch pockets: a feat of effortless properness. It combines ultimate comfort with ease of movement, exuding a sense of composed elegance distinctive of Loro Piana. With its waist drawstring and numerous multi-purpose pockets, it is meant to fulfil the needs of those who travel often for both work and pleasure, offering uttermost versatility and adaptability. Discreet and suitable for all occasions, it is immediately recognisable by its distinct outer pockets and collar strap. The ideal solution for travelling light, it covers a formal jacket perfectly, making it ideal for work trips. Its impeccable look, clean line and matte finish microfibre lend it a crisp, refined look, with an easy casual spirit. Extremely versatile, it is also the perfect solution for leisure thanks to its versatility. Originally crafted from Windmate®, the same fabric as the Loro Piana Bomber, but without its reversible feature, it was designed to maintain an impeccable appearance even after being folded during a trip.

The Maria and Francesca

Named after Maria and Francesca Loro Piana, sisters of founder Pietro Loro Piana who played an important role in the Maison’s history after his death. In the middle of the 1970’s, the coats were inspired by Elena Loro Piana, wife of Franco Loro Piana, in collaboration with her trusted tailor. They were created at a time when Loro Piana supplied fabrics for womenswear and menswear designers. Mrs. Loro Piana’s idea was to offer tangible examples of how the Maison’s exquisite fabrics could be transformed into desirable garments for elegant ladies, especially women like her friends, who shared the habit of having their clothes made by their own tailors. While born from the same vision, the two coats express it in distinct ways. The Maria coat is defined by a square construction and an oversized, wrapped silhouette that evokes the ease of a cape, with generous volumes that highlight the softness and fluidity of the double fabric. The Francesca coat is built around a raglan construction and follows the body more closely, with a straighter, more vertical line that lends it a more tailored presence while preserving comfort and freedom of movement. Together, they show how the same refined fabrics could give rise to different attitudes, united by understated elegance, comfort, and sophistication.

The Rovasenda

The Rovasenda jacket is inspired by a historic design worn by the Loro Piana family in and around the namesake Italian village, located in the Piedmont region. Conceived in 1997 as a practical country jacket, its details were each born from a precise functional need. From the double-entry pockets to the upright collar that folds back neatly like a lapel, every detail serves a purpose. Its defining characteristics are the detachable sleeves, originally designed to adapt to shifting temperatures during long days outdoors, allowing the style to be effortlessly converted into a practical vest as the seasons shift. A modern solution for city life and travel, it is crafted with ultimate versatility at its core.

The Maremma

A refined interpretation of the country jacket, the Maremma is steeped in heritage – its name referencing the eponymous region in Tuscany, renowned for its scenic countryside, truffle hunting, and gamekeeping. Drawing inspiration from the country life, it was conceived first and foremost as the ideal companion for countryside adventures. Launched in 2001, the Maremma is defined by softly structured lines and a straight profile, for a contemporary feel and clean finish. Preserving original design cues, it incorporates signature knitted inserts along the collar and below the arms for ease and freedom of movement. It is primed to accompany you through countryside adventures in true comfort and style, and is equally perfect for city living.

The Polo Open

The Polo Open expresses the quintessence of outdoor living in the very Italian, sophisticated yet sporty spirit of vacationing. Launched in 1994, it was first worn on My Song, the Loro Piana family boat. It reflects the Maison’s attention to create clothing that combine exceptional savoir-faire and elegant art de vivre. Relaxed and versatile, the polo shirt has an elegant, timeless wide placket, meant to be worn open. Perfect for an effortless look, it is yet never too casual, and always chic.

The Grande Unita

The Grande Unita was created from a part of cashmere cloth from the Loro Piana Piedmont factory, cleverly cut to create an elongated scarf. From a fabric to a scarf, a hyphen between the Loro Piana textile heritage and the Maison’s new era of accessories and ready-to-wear. It was the first finished product conceived by Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana in the 1980s. At the time, when fringed cashmere scarves from England and Scotland were small and available in only limited colours, the Grande Unita set itself apart with its generously enveloping size and an outstanding palette of multiple vibrant shades. A soft, warm accessory, a perfect harmony of superlative fibres, timeless elegance, functionality, and absolute comfort.

The André

The iconic André shirt represents Loro Piana’s understated timeless elegance. Created in 1998, it was inspired by 1950s Neapolitan shirt-making and the gentlemen of that era, who exuded a perfect balance of sophistication and casual charm. It features a collar with wide, folded facings and no stiff band, which means it can be worn open or with a tie, under a jacket or under a sweater, always impeccable, sitting perfectly. The unmistakable garment is named after André Piot, a Swiss artist and painter who spent most of his life working in the world of textiles, specifically with Loro Piana. The first André shirts were created in denim, but soon the André shirt was also developed in linen, precisely because this material is ideal in hot and humid weather. For the Maison, linen is the most refined and elegant counterpart to cashmere for the summer season. Noble, elegant, and exceptionally comfortable, it ensures an irresistible sensory experience. The André shirt is now available for both men and women, and is renowned for its soft feel, continuously transmitting a pleasant sensation to the skin.

The White Sole

Immediately recognisable, the White Sole shoe is a timeless Loro Piana Icon, that was introduced in 2003. The first model to be introduced was the Summer Walk, then came the Open Walk adapted for city living, with a patented opening including an invisible elastic under the tongue ensuring a perfect slip-on fit, and then the Summer Charms Walk as a feminine addition to the line. Lightweight and versatile, its distinctive silhouette is inspired by the world of sailing and effortlessly adapts to contemporary city living. Their minimalist profile is defined by sinuous lines, reinterpreting the classic moccasin design with a refined sensibility. Slip-resistant yet flexible, durable yet comfortable, it is realised using innovative techniques and made in Italy, blending a semi-transparent rubber sole with soft, sophisticated suedes and leathers. Etched with the Maison’s initials for grip, the sole creates a striking contrast to the upper of the shoe, resulting from a carefully balanced combination of signature elements. Completing the style are subtle tone-on-tone stitching along the welt and a special section on the lower part dedicated to personalising the pair with the owner’s name. The White Sole is the perfect complement to formal and informal looks alike, embodying the House’s unique savoir-faire and constant quest for perfection.

The Sergio Walk

Classic moccasins with band that pay homage to the elegance of Sergio Loro Piana and celebrate the Maison’s savoir-faire and craftsmanship. The Sergio Walk loafer boasts a classic shape that is taken from Sergio Loro Piana’s personal collection, reflecting a look that was dear to him. Initially tailor-made for Sergio by his master shoemakers in the 1970s, following his very own directions, Loro Piana’s iconic moccasins now are crafted from extremely soft leather for comfort and ease.

The Lou Tassel Walk

The Lou Tassel Walk slipper is an iconic creation modelled after an archival Loro Piana slipper, which, in turn, was inspired by the traditional footwear of the Valsesia area – the region where the House was founded. Originally created in the 1990’s, it was distinctive for being crafted in cashmere, a feature that underscored its unique character from the outset. The actual design combines style with versatility and is ideally suited to complete an array of ensembles, its wear extending well beyond the home. In a timelessly classic moccasin shape, it is accentuated with elegant tassel detailing that gesture towards the original shoe, harmoniously defining the silhouette. With ten hours of dedicated work behind each pair, it is made in line with time-honoured crafting practices with a focus on fine natural fabrics.
