Samuel Virgo – “ICU” + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

I’d recommend my personal favourite, a double spice rum with pineapple juice. It’s an easy way to get to know me and it’s my go to drink wherever I am.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

So we just released the first single “ICU” off my upcoming project, we will be following that up with another single in September and one more in October just before everything comes out.

We have a release show – Oct 22nd in London tickets are free

New video in september for “Slip Away” my second single off the project

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I wouldn’t know if this was harmless or not but maybe finding out lizard people rule the world and have been controlling us from the beginning or if it’s something way less harmless I think it’d be cool to get to the bottom of whether the existence of places like el dorado, the hangings gardens of Babylon or Atlantis were real or know where they are at least – that would be pretty cool to see.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I feel like my music is a representation of my own style. I’m a very baggy jeans wide leg jeans kind of guy. I also like my football tops. I have a little collection going of my favourite teams or shirts that I just think are cool. I’d say my music is like a cool retro football top with some baggy jeans but if we’re also being real.

Realistically it’s probably weekday. I don’t mind that though

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

I’m always just being myself so my music is very much about that. It’s personal, honest and it’s earnest to me. Every song is unique and it’s based on what I’m feeling/experiencing at that time. Topics wise nothing is off the table I like to explore as much as my life and experience as I can and I leave my personal experiences open enough for listeners to interpret and connect with in their own way, whether it’s me talking about my identity, growing up, relationships and the lasting impact these things have on my world and the world around us.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’d say being a strong swimmer is a talent and did hold a lifeguard qualification at one point.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1. My artist name is my real name and my last name is Virgo and my star sign is Virgo
  2. My favourite albums that inspired me the most to make music –

because the internet – Childish Gambino

DAMN – Kendrick Lamar

A brief inquiry into online relationships – The 1975

Favourite worst nightmare – Arctic Monkeys

Astroworld – Travis Scott

3. I recorded my first song on a Samsung galaxy phone using the voice recorder app in my bedroom in Sheffield in 2018 with an instrumental from YouTube

4.The band that inspired me the most growing up is The 1975

5. I used to play bass guitar, I don’t anymore but I do want to learn again. And I can also play clarinet

8. The road so far…. who or what was your biggest support??

I’d say my mum. She always made sure we had what we needed growing up and she always worked very hard and did her best to make sure of that. I think she wasn’t 100% in on me doing music full time and always said to have a backup plan which I did but she never said no to doing music and she always supports everything I do. When all is said and done I hope she gets to see the hard work was worthwhile

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

“If you weren’t doing music, what would your dream job be?”

I’d probably be a sports player. I’ve always loved sports, so I’d have to choose between F1, basketball or football. F1 would be my dream, I loved Karting as a child and if I had the money I definitely would have given it a go, the speed is insane. But if you told me I had to pick one tomorrow, I’d probably say professional football or basketball player. Basically, if I wasn’t trying to make it in music, I’d still be trying to make it somewhere else.
