Montblanc – Art of the Desk

Since its inception in 1906, Montblanc has championed writing as a timeless act of creativity and self-expression. The Maison continues to deepen this heritage by introducing the Art of the Desk – a theme that celebrates not just the objects that support the creative process, but the desk itself as a space where ideas take shape, where stories begin, and where imagination becomes tangible as ink touches paper.

The Desk as a Creative Identity

The desk, in Montblanc’s creative universe, represents more than a functional surface. It is a deeply personal environment that is part studio, part sanctuary where writers gather their tools and shape their unique perspective on the world.

The concept was introduced at Montblanc’s Paris Fashion Week showroom in January 2024, where the Montblanc Desk, designed by Artistic Director Marco Tomasetta, was first unveiled. Crafted primarily from solid oak wood in a mid-century modern style, the Montblanc Desk features a leather desk pad and leather-lined plateaus for writing instruments and inks, blending the Maison’s writing culture with its leather craftsmanship. As a subtle detail, one of the desk’s finely milled legs is complemented by three rose gold-coloured lacquered resin rings, echoing the three rings on the cap of Montblanc’s iconic Meisterstück writing instrument. The drawer handles have been designed to mimic the undulating silhouette of a mountain, while the top drawers are fitted with a leather watch storage on one side of the desk, and on the other, a dedicated slot into which the leather-lined writing instrument plateau can be conveniently transferred.

For the complete experience, the Montblanc Desk can be paired with a matching chair, crafted from rosewood with leather back- and armrests available in a selection of signature Montblanc leather finishes.

With the desk as its centre, Montblanc continues to elevate the narrative of this workspace with a selection of objects crafted to inspire creation. The renewed focus reconnects the Maison’s long-standing writing culture heritage with contemporary rituals, encouraging individuals to express themselves through the way they construct their creative landscape. From the materials selected to the arrangement of personal objects, the desk becomes a self-portrait—an intimate expression of one’s imagination.

“Whether writing a novel or sketching a design, everything begins at the desk. It is the one place built for focus, for reflection, for putting pen to paper. With this new chapter of the Art of the Desk, we want to continue to elevate that personal space, to make it beautiful, tactile, and inspiring,” says Marco Tomasetta, Montblanc Artistic Director. “We are inviting everyone to rediscover the profound joy of creation, with the desk as a creative playground.”
