Monako – All I’d Known Was To Lie

Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

I think a nice cup of tea is the best. We’ve reached that time of the year where it’s important to keep ourselves warm, and I can’t think of a better way to do that than having ourselves a cup of tea. Personal recommendation would be chamomile tea with a good drop of oat milk and honey to your taste, for all the people out there with a sweet tooth.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I’d say new us to be honest. We’ve just released our new song “All I’d Known Was to Lie”. It’s the second single off our debut album “Scared of The Way I move”, scheduled to be released on February 24th, 2023. We shot a video for that song. You’ll see me, Sadek, go through a whole lot of emotions.
We’re going in April 2023 on our first headliner tour throughout Germany to support the release of our debut album. We’re super excited for this one. We’ve spent the 3 years preparing for this moment.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

Whenever you work with us you will be treated with the best and healthiest homemade catering.

We come from very different musical backgrounds but found a common understanding in our languages within Monako.

Most of us tend to slack a lot when we go about our own individual lives, but when it comes to music, we’re extremely disciplined and punctual. I guess it’s like that when you love something.

We love writing songs and being in the studio because we produce everything ourselves. We have total control and the freedom to release our inner childs.

When we feel our concerts you will feel our concerts, it can get really emotional and gripping. Often it is dead silent between songs (in a good way).

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Nöl Collective from Palestine. Love the styles, the fits, the level of consciousness behind their brand and what they stand for.

We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example, Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I can’t think of a conspiracy theory that I wish was true. I can think of one that I find hilarious and has been following me for a while now. It goes like this: Avril Lavigne actually died years ago and has been since then replaced by an android without anyone noticing.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I’d love to slow its tempo. We’re living in a time where everything is moving at an unsustainable pace. I feel like we want to see something new come out every single day. It’s the case in the music industry where it’s become normal for artists to constantly be releasing music. There’s a lot of truly amazing art coming out in these present times. It’s not all dark. But it’s not normal anymore to take your time to go about your art. I’d love to see this being normalized again. I’d love for our society to celebrate the fact that its artists are taking their time. It’s not the case anymore. Thing is though: Great art takes time. There’s absolutely no way around it.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

The new songs that we’re about to release on our album are all centered around self-acceptance in the broadest sense. Some are about coming to terms with my past, with stuff that happened to me or were caused by my actions. Others are about looking into the future and asking the question if I’m ever going to be alright. It’s also about accepting the fact that I might never reach a stage of being totally self-assured. They often feel like written down late night dialogues with a close friend or confessions at the end of a fight with your partner. I think everyone can relate to at least a few of them because they are inherently human.

“All I’d Known Was To Lie” really triggered it all. When I look back at the whole writing and production process of this album, this song was the beginning of it all. Its story is as honest as my heart can possibly be. We never looked back.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?!

*puts away fake mustache*
Hi I am not actually a music journalist but Justin Vernon, from the band Bon Iver, would you like to come on a world tour with me to become extremely famous?

Answer: Say no more, we’re in!
