1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?
I’d say pink lemonade, maybe spiked with vodka if you’re drinking, or straight-up if you’re not. Sweet, refreshing, and a little sour… which feels pretty fitting for Know Me Better.
2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
There’s a lot happening right now! Our latest single, Know Me Better, came out this summer and has been getting some really exciting support, including being named The Zone @ 91-3’s July Band of the Month, as well as receiving commercial and campus radio play across Canada.
We’re hard at work on our next release, going back into the studio early fall, and preparing for an EP release for early 2027. We’re also really excited to be preparing for our first full-band live performance. Watch out for acoustic versions of our songs and some full-length cover videos coming your way soon.
3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!
- We’ve been making music together since 2018. We met because I was playing Sandy in Grease during my final year of high school, while Michael was volunteering for lighting and sound tech. He thought we would be great together in a band, and years of doing just that began.
- We have our own weird songwriting language. Michael and I can communicate an entire musical idea to each other that makes absolutely no sense to anyone else. A look, a noise, or a completely nonsensical sentence can somehow translate into a song.
- Michael wrote the verses for Know Me Better at 2 a.m. the night before we recorded them. We had been trying for months to crack those verses and just couldn’t get them right. Then, at the absolute last minute, Michael figured it out in the middle of the night and came in with the lyrics that ended up on the record.
- Our musical influences are completely different. I’m the one listening to grunge, rock and alternative music on a daily basis, while Michael leans much more toward pop. That contrast definitely finds its way into Miss the Heart with our contrast between heavy guitars and rock energy mixed with big, pop-driven melodies.
- Live, we’re going to be LOUD and totally rock n’ roll. The recordings have a strong pop side, but our live show is going to lean hard into the rock. Michael and I have played a lot of shows together in previous bands, so we know how much fun a high-energy rock show can be. Our goal is simple: big guitars, big drums, pop melodies you can scream along to, and a room full of people losing their minds.
4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
Pop princess meets grunge goddess.
And fun fact, we don’t wear black as a prominent colour, typically grey as a base colour instead.
5. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)
I love alien conspiracy theories, and totally believe that they exist, and we have made contact with them already.
6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I think I would change how oversaturated the industry has become. There is so much incredible music being made right now that it can be difficult for radio stations, media and industry professionals to have the time and space to really discover and consider emerging artists. I wish it were easier for great new music to cut through the endless noise, for us, and for all the amazing artists and bands we’re lucky enough to call our friends. There’s so much talent out there, and sometimes it feels like the hardest part is simply getting someone to hear it.
7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
At the core of everything we write is feminine rage. We explore everything that surrounds it, not just the anger itself. Our songs explore the sadness, frustration, realization, anger, decisions, consequences, and real-life experiences that surround feminine rage.
A lot of our music comes from those moments where you finally realize something isn’t right, understand why you feel the way you do, and decide what you’re going to do about it. It also explores the internal conflict and inside dialogue that occurs when dealing with this. We want to explore the experiences that create that rage while also making the songs intentionally relatable.
8. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
What does Miss the Heart mean to you?
Honestly, it means everything to me. I spend almost all of my free time working on it. The songwriting, the creative side, the strategy, the emails, the behind-the-scenes work, all of it. I genuinely love every part of building this project. It constantly pushes me to become better, step outside of my comfort zone and grow into a more well-rounded person.
It also means so much to me because of what happened in my life a few years ago. I went through a deeply personal period of grief, and somewhere in that process I had a turning point where I realized that music was what I really wanted to pursue, and that I had to actually go for it. I could be happy living a more typical life, but this is what genuinely excites me and fulfills me.
Miss the Heart feels like choosing the thing that means the most to me and giving it everything I’ve got.
