How to Ensure You Do Valentine’s Day Right This Year

Unless you are of American heritage, Valentine’s Day (certainly for British people), is looked upon far more cynically and often seen as just another commercial holiday.

However, if your own partner feels as if Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year and that you have repeatedly disappointed them then, for your own sake, keep reading.

Start Planning Ahead of Time

If you are the type of man who always seems to leave everything to the last minute, especially when it comes to booking tables and making formal plans, then now is the time to change your ways, at least for one day!

As soon as you can, decide where you would like to take your valentine for the evening and book as soon as you have chosen; this way, you can rest assured that at least the largest part of the day is already sorted.

Be Realistic with Your Expectations

Now, even if you have your heart set on showering your significant other with only the very best, it is important not to set your heights too high and end up stressed, burnt out and disappointing yourself.

Even if you would absolutely love to prepare your beloved a seven-course feast, for example, but are not what you would call an expert chef, why not take your partner our for a delicious surprise meal at the best Indian restaurant in Bristol instead! Alternatively, if you are planning a Valentine’s Day at home, you could order your food to be delivered at exactly the right time to suit you both.

A Candlelit Bath

Sometimes, cliches and tropes when it comes to Valentine’s Day are, for some people at least, decidedly cringe, but one surprise which is bound to make your loved one happy and feel loved is to draw them a bath, complete with scented candles.

Use only the most luxurious of bubble baths to create the right relaxing atmosphere and if you are feeling particularly sentimental, you could even scatter fresh rose petals into the water as well.

Valentine’s Day is the Whole Day!

Unfortunately, in the modern world it is highly likely that yourself or your loved one, or indeed both of you, were unable to get the entire day off work and as such, you should surprise your partner with a huge bouquet of flowers and a loving card to be delivered to their workplace.

Not only will they be surprised you remembered (always a win), but if things do not exactly go to plan later on in the evening, at least you have accrued brownie points in the morning.

Sentimental Photographs

Finally, one element of Valentine’s Day that you must not forget is that of a present and if you are looking for a romantic and thoughtful keepsake of a gift, then purchase a beautifully embroidered scrapbook and fill it with photographic memories of your time together so far.

For the arty types amongst you, you could even include hand drawings of the places you have been to and if you have any ticket stubs, include these in there too to create a sensory experience of your relationship in photographic form.
