Cheap Wedding – „Fill That Void“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

A smoky Whiskey Sour

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I am very excited about the latest developments in my musical journey. While I initially released singles like ‚Skyscrapers‘ and ‚Like Water‘ independently, I’m delighted that my latest Cheap Wedding track ‚Fill That Void‘ has found a home on Duchess Box Records, one of Germany’s boldest indie music labels.

Looking ahead, I have several single releases and music videos in the pipeline, waiting to be released. I’m also proud to have composed the soundtrack for the upcoming arthouse film „Sabbatical“, which will be released in cinemas this year.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

In general, I don’t like conspiracies, because they tend to divide the world into good and bad. But „Dolphins plot world domination“ somehow makes me smile. The idea of dolphins holding secret meetings and ushering in a new era of underwater dominance fascinates me. Or the cats on the internet? Can’t decide.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

My music is a reflection of a diverse array of influences, and when it comes to fashion, it’s no different.

I am drawn to unique vintage pieces, often worn in my music videos, as they have their own stories and aura, reflecting my love of longevity and authenticity. Inspired by Berlin’s DIY music scene, especially Neukölln, my style combines boldness with rebellion, featuring trash, flames and punk motifs alongside comfortable staples like overalls. I prioritise functionality, preferring sophisticated workwear that I feel comfortable in, yet sensual. I like to fuse dystopian elements, vintage fashion and cyber punk. My fashion choices emphasise individuality and self-expression over monetary value or brand names. However, I do have one designer whom I would love to mention here: Vava Dudu.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My songs are a lot about listening to your inner feelings and being brave enough to express them. They are very intimate. They are romantic and mystical in a way, but they also name certain dark things that humanity has to face and change. Fill That Void, for example, talks about how we are on a manic quest, like gold diggers, to satisfy our needs even as the world goes down the drain. We hollow out the earth or make other people bleed in order to chase our stubborn dreams .

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I had horses as a kid and can handle the most difficult of horses. Growing up with these animals taught me a lot in communicating, It also did me no harm to work physically hard in the stable. One of my part-time jobs was as a sauna attendant. I’m pretty tough when it comes to cold and heat. Having all kinds of different jobs and experiences II have some stories to tell, I guess.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

1 I do a lot on my own: writing, singing, playing keys, producing, shooting videos.

2 I have only recently started producing my own music, as I always thought that I am not tech-savvy enough for it

3 There are phases where I make music every available second I have, and there are phases where I need to immerse myself in something totally different to find new inspiration and avoid becoming bored with self-reflection. I have to escape the ivory tower sometimes.

4 I love minimalism, and I often refine my songs until only the essential remains – sometimes I get lost in perfection doing this.

5 I can be somewhat shy on stage, sometimes I play bass in other bands, and in my next life, I would like to be a bassist (or maybe even in a few years in this one?).

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

At our house, there was a piano and many other instruments that my older siblings used to play. I began setting fairy tales to music when I was five years old. Later, I became a classically trained pianist. At some point, I experienced an injury and couldn’t play virtuosic pieces for some time. It was during this period that I started singing and writing my own songs

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

What is your wildest musical dream?

Cheap Wedding with full band and BBC Symphony Orchestra live in Pompeii, Italy. I would play grand piano, all kinds of Moogs and sing duets with PJ Harvey, Leonard Cohen, FKA Twigs, Stuart Staples (Tindersticks), Gil Scott-Heron, King Krule, and Fever Ray. I would have written and produced the music with them alongside Mica Levi, Geoff Barrow, Matthew Herbert, Aphex Twin, and J Dilla. Live visuals by David Lynch.
