ASICS SportStyle has again collaborated with EMPTY BEHAVIOR to unveil the new HYPERSYNCTM shoe, under the theme “Powerette,” revisiting the design of low-profile silhouette.
ASICS SportStyle and EMPTY BEHAVIOR present the HYPERSYNCTM shoe: a cross-disciplinary experiment in athletic philosophy. Here, the grace and strength of classical dance are transformed into wearable art. The raw tension of the arena transcends mere opposition, evolving into an elegant interplay on foot.
Inspired by Classic Dance in Poise and Balance
Inspired by wrestling shoes, the ASICS x EMPTY BEHAVIOR HYPERSYNCTM shoe is built upon the design of ASICS low-profile silhouette, with a focus on grounded strength and fluid dance movement. Finding harmony within contrast and hybrid forms, the design juxtaposes the force of ancient wrestling with the refined poise of classical court performance.
Designed for fit and flexibility, the ASICS x EMPTY BEHAVIOR HYPERSYNCTM shoe reimagines the streamlined wrestling silhouette with elements of the dance shoe. Starting from the pivot of the foot, it translates explosive power into controlled grace, allowing the body to move with effortless poise. It perfectly captures the “Powerette” theme—a fusion of strength and classical dance(with “-ette” as a suffix commonly associated with female dancers) — celebrating the beauty of movement between ascent and resistance, and the balance within competition.
Archival Codes Revisited in A Low-Profile Silhouette
Drawing from classical dance skirts and ruff collars, the design team merges the reimagined construction and pleating with the shoe’s functional silhouette—resulting in a concept sneaker that balances performance with artistic expression.
The elements from dance skirts are subtly integrated into the tongue design, where soft textile textures contrast with the shoe’s rugged, wrestling- inspired structure. The lateral ASICS Stripes feature pleats inspired by classical dance attire, secured by central double-stitching and fanning out into a layered look. The tongue features the shirring technique, with satin evoking the elegance of classical dancewear, while a built-in elastic structure enhances fit and comfort, harmonizing form and function.
Available in white/silver and black/pink, the HYPERSYNCTM shoe harnesses chiaroscuro to enhance visual depth, creating a striking tension between the classic and the modern. Through different colorways, this interplay of strength and softness resonates with the young generation’s embrace of versatility and bodily expression.
Captured on the streets of Paris by Daniel Roché—a prominent voice in contemporary fashion and art—the campaign reflects the fusion of youth culture and a cool, rebellious edge.
