APW – „BETTA“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

A classic margarita, with a half salt rim. That usually gets me gobby!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

So the new single BETTA, is out now and carries on the r&b/pop/soul influence that’s carried through all my music. Im buzzed to say that I’m just putting the finishing touches on my next project, which is a house/jazz/soul E.P. Taking the same opinionated lyrics and putting to a MAXWELL/KAYTRANADA type beat. Ive been working with producer Cam Ward (AUGUST CHARLES) &  artist BELLA. As well as some other exciting features !

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Honestly…I can’t think of a single one. shall we make one up together right now?

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Hmmmm I reckon Martine Rose. The working class element of the brand definitely feels like home.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My songs are about a breakup. ICONIC, NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE. But also, its about delving into my own negative behaviour to that person and to myself. My song “Learnt Behaviour” looks at using sex for validation, which is a big topic in the queer community.

BETTA is about finally putting that shit relationship to bed. Moving on and accepting your part.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I can flip, I used to do parkour…

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

Mancunian, Queer, She’s a soprano, honest & chucklesome.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I learnt from listening to the greats, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer. I went to college and studied performing & production is a new string to the bow which I owe a lot to Craig Sellar my producer on BETTA.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

I always like telling funny stories so….What was your worst performance?

And the answer is.

There’s been so many, but a recent one was I was supporting an artist and singing my new single… I usually get everyone to sing along. Did the call and response. NOT. A. SOUL. Sang it back.

So I started the song and riffed the shit out of it for my own pleasure 🙂
