64 Funnycars – „The Barbeque Party“ + Exclusive Interview

1.      Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

We’re not really a big “drinking band” but do like a nice local beer or two at practice. So maybe a nice craft or microbrew beer would be a good match.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos

This year marks the re-issue (and first time on digital platforms) of our album Happy Go Lucky, which was originally released in 1989. It was recorded at the legendary Egg Studios in Seattle over one fun and action-packed weekend. To add to the re-release, we’ve also done a number of live recordings with our label 604 Records at their studio in Vancouver. The first two videos (The Barbeque Party, Flat World„*) are out now and can be seen here:

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

We were definitely influenced by the power pop and college rock bands of our era.

We once drove 24 hours non-stop across Canada to our first tour show ever (that was a mistake).

We love to play live, loud and loose in our shows.

We’ve shared the stage with lots of amazing bands over the years, such as Buzzcocks, Young Fresh Fellows, NRBQ, and many more.

We definitely don’t take ourselves too seriously.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

We don’t think that fashion style is something that immediately comes to mind when thinking of us! But a cool ironic or band t-shirt, some comfortable jeans, and some retro sneakers would probably paint a picture of us.

5. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

UFOs are cool. If they were part of our lives, that could be interesting.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

It would be to give more opportunity for artists and passionate musicians to make a respectable living and income from their craft, where playing live, recording and releasing music, and building a community can be the focus of your work. The scales are still too tilted to the models of this industry, such as the way the streaming platforms work today.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Our songs are typically poppy, full of fun hooks and melodies. Some of our songs have a message within them, but that’s never been at the heart of them. We sing about being in love during our youth, relationship hi-jinx, and all the associated trials and tribulations. We also write about buying big jars of pickles and being an arc-welder…so we’re not always on the serious side of things.
