Your swing is more than just how hard you hit the ball, or at what angle you hit it. Your swing is important for hitting straight shots, and being a better golfer overall. 

Golf is one of those games that can be rife with tips, and if you are regularly practicing with other golfers with your best lightweight golf bags, you will probably have had endless tips from them every time you place.

And truthfully, there are so many tips, however, at the end of the day, it is all about how you play. You cannot play the same as someone else, you are never going to play just like Tiger Woods, and some tips may just not work for you.

#1. Set Balance

Our first tip comes before you even start thinking about your back swing. Before any golfer takes their first swing there is always one thing that they need to think about first. Can you guess what it is? 

That’s right! Balance. You need to check your balance, and make sure that you are able to keep a steady center of gravity. However, you do not want to be so stiff you cannot move your body through the swing. 

You need to have a good and steady center of gravity, but also have a loose enough form that you can easily move your body through every stage of your swing. 

Practicing this is the best way to perfect it. 

Try putting your weight on the balls of your feet and adding a minor bend to your knees, then point the face of your club at your target, in this position you can now align your feet and shoulders just behind it. 

Do not forget to ensure you shift your weight through the motion of your swing, while you should be grounded with a stable center of gravity, you should not be stiff, your stance needs to be mobile and fluid to complete a good swinging motion.

#2. Try A Looser Grip

If you find yourself gripping your clubs like you are worried they are going to fly away if you let go, it is time to re-think your grip. 

A tight, knuckle whitening grip is not suitable for gold, ever. It has simply no place in a good golf game, even if you are stuck in a sand trap. 

So, next time you are teeing up, take in a deep breath, and relax. Loosen your muscles and fingers before you swing. 

Of course, you don’t want a grip so loose that you could accidentally throw your club halfway across the green, but don’t grip it so hard that you’re nearly squeezing it. There is a good balance you need to find.

#3. Finesse Is The Key, Force Is The Enemy

It can be very difficult to restrain yourself from putting in every ounce of muscle you have into a good swing, but you need to restrain that urge. 

If you add a lot of power and muscle into your swing, you are much more likely to miss your target. Sure, you might get a good distance on it, but it will probably be well off your target. In fact, as people are learning to play golf, they are always more likely to end up totally missing the ball if they put too much power behind their swing. 

It might surprise you just how little physical energy you actually need to put into a swing to make the ball soar. Spend some time practicing and get a good feel for the right amount of energy.

#4. Keep The Ball In Sight

You know how those pro golfers have a great follow through, they always make it look so easy don’t they? Well, technically it is, once you get the hang of it of course. All you need to do for a great follow through is to just keep your eye on your ball.

Golfing is not so different from driving in this sense. Imagine you’re on the road, and you take your eye off of the exit on the highway as you are approaching, what happens? You are likely to totally miss it and end up panicking to get off the highway, often resulting in a bit of lane cutting. 

A similar thing tends to happen in golf. If you take your eyes off of the ball for just a moment, you will not deliver a full swing, and you usually end up missing your target. 

Sure, it is a weird metaphor, but if you treat your golf swing with the same focus as ensuring you do not miss a turning on the highway, you will deliver better swings and make better shots overall.

Just keep your head in the game and your eye on the ball until it comes to a full stop on the green. Practice your focus and you will watch your game improve vastly! 

#5. Always Practice, And Then Practice Again

Notice something we have been repeating this whole time? Practice! The journey to getting a better golf swing is a fulfilling one, but it is also a lengthy one, you need to practice. 

No one became a professional golfer overnight, and no one’s swing dramatically changed just because someone told them what to do, you need to put the action in on the green and get practicing. 

Try out a new golf course, as these can give you a fresh perspective and you can end up developing some bad habits if you always play on the same course, after all, you will likely know it very well.
