This season, The Lanesborough invites its guests to a rare taste of Viennese culinary history: an exclusive pop-up in the elegant Withdrawing Room celebrates two of Austria’s most iconic desserts. For a limited time, guests have the opportunity to savor the Original Sacher-Torte and the traditional apple strudel – served in collaboration with the luxurious, family-run, 5-star superior Hotel Sacher Wien, in The Lanesborough’s legendary Withdrawing Room.
The Original Sacher Torte was created by Franz Sacher in 1832, and its closely guarded recipe makes it one of the most famous cakes in the world and a piece of Austrian history. To this day, it is handcrafted in 34 individual steps, layered with apricot jam, finished with its characteristic chocolate glaze, and classically served with unsweetened whipped cream. The menu is complemented by a classic apple strudel, delicately filled with spiced apples and wrapped in wafer-thin pastry – an equally authentic expression of Viennese coffeehouse culture.
