The new KIPRUN trail running shoe KIPSUMMIT MAX for long distances

Incredible distances, the highest demands: In ultra-trail running, comfort, stability, and efficiency over many hours are crucial. The KIPSUMMIT MAX from KIPRUN was specifically developed for these challenges and is designed for distances from marathons to runs exceeding 170 kilometers. The shoe combines responsive cushioning, reliable grip on a wide variety of terrain, and a high degree of stability for extended runs in the mountains.

The KIPSUMMIT series is KIPRUN’s new trail running line. Following the KIPSUMMIT Race, the new Kipsummit MAX trail running shoe is now being added (starting in February 2026). This model was specifically developed for long distances in the mountains. It combines comfort, stability, and performance and is aimed at all runners, from ambitious beginners to experienced ultra-distance athletes.

“With the KIPSUMMIT MAX, we wanted to offer more than just protection. Trail runners need cushioning, lightness, and responsiveness that propel them mile after mile—without compromise. The Vibram Megagrip outsole was tested on some of the toughest trails around Chamonix, and its grip impressed everyone.”

Maximum comfort meets alpine versatility

The KIPSUMMIT MAX features several technical components that work together to deliver outstanding performance on the trail. The technical foundation is a FASTECH+ midsole made of SCF A-TPU foam. The special manufacturing process allows for a soft yet dynamic running feel, reduces fatigue, and supports efficient propulsion over long distances. Compared to the previous model, cushioning has been increased by 25 percent and energy return by 21 percent. The insole is also made of this material blend and contributes to a dynamic rolling motion.

The Vibram Megagrip outsole with 4 mm lugs provides reliable grip on challenging terrain. The proven rubber compound offers excellent traction on wet rock, steep ascents, and slippery surfaces.

The shoe’s construction combines protection and comfort for extended mountain expeditions. A durable mesh outer layer ensures abrasion resistance and longevity, while the padded interior comfortably cradles the foot. The tongue, collar, and upper are designed to minimize pressure points and friction, even on ultra-distance runs.

A new lace-band system replaces the traditional lace pocket. The elastic band securely holds the laces without creating pressure points on the instep and allows for quick and easy adjustment. This provides stable midfoot support without restricting movement.

The stability of the KIPSUMMIT MAX is based on a well-thought-out geometry. A finely tuned rocker, combined with a 6 mm drop, supports efficient, fluid running – even when your legs get heavy. The wide platform and responsive foam ensure a secure stance without making the shoe feel stiff. At 268 grams (EU 42, men’s) and 233 grams (EU 38, women’s), the KIPSUMMIT MAX also boasts the necessary lightness for alpine ultra-trails.

Proven at the highest level

The KIPSUMMIT MAX has already demonstrated its performance on the international trail running stage. Blandine L’Hirondel secured victory in this model at one of the toughest ultra-trails in the world on Réunion Island. It is one of the most demanding races worldwide, covering approximately 165 kilometers with more than 9,500 meters of elevation gain through technical and volcanic terrain.

The success highlights the balanced combination of comfort, grip, and rebound, which is crucial, especially on long and demanding stretches of track. Blandine L’Hirondel’s performance exemplifies the KIPSUMMIT MAX’s mission: to provide runners with optimal support even under extreme conditions and enable efficient performance over many hours.
