The Ingrid – „Mother“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

(Will and Josh) Red Wine! (Jess) Anything!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

(Josh) I know I can say I’m planning a video!

(Jess) It’s super exciting, we have lots of new music we’re waiting to share with you. (Will) Watch this space!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

  1. We believe in serving the song
  2. The arts deserve recognition
  3. We are a fusion of our different backgrounds and tastes in music
  4. Our songs are up for interpretation; though they have meaning to us we will never define this, they are for you.
  5. Ingrid belongs to everyone and no one

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

(Josh) For me it’s a shirt. (Will) I love a good band t shirt.

(Jess) I think what’s lovely is we are all different, and we bring that to the table.

5. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

(Josh) I love mythical creatures and cryptids. So dragons or hidden giants being real would be amazing.

(Jess) Errr maybe the idea that all of time is happening all at once or something like that? It’s oddly comforting.

(Will) Not sure if it’s a conspiracy or just a theory but the black hole universe theory. To cut a long a story short it states that universes are born through black hole singularities. this would be cool as it means there’s a uncountable amount of other universes out there that are just beyond our reach.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

(Josh) The way artists and art are pushed aside in favour of quotas and finance.

(Jess) Artists of all guises get less recognition than the machine so to speak.

(Will)  the fact that if you don’t make a hit song in the first 15seconds for short form content it’s likely the songs won’t have as much widespread impact.

7. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

(Jess) Genuinely it’s so hard to pin point. Mother for example, it could be about an ex, it could be about god? Who is to say? The songs belong to everybody so who would I be to say somebodies interpretation isn’t correct. I would say focus on a lot of psychological processes, almost writing about the writing sometimes. It can be quite meta.

(Josh) I like to compose my drums like breathing, so you can see moments of respite in the story when the drums breathe more, and then moments of panic when the drums and breaths are more erratic.

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

(Josh) Why is your drumming different?

I come from passions in film-making, but even when I was studying music in high school and college, the only things I was really that good at composing were film scores. So I use that knowledge now and treat my drums more like compositions than grooves most times. It gives the songs a cinematic quality which i think is quite unique.

(Jess) Can you explain a lyric to us?

“Lamb in sheep’s clothing”. It is a play on words, the term is ‘Wolf in Sheep’s clothing’. I’m talking about innocence and sensitivity here.

(Will) What makes you feel creative and motivated to work?

I believe that to achieve and gain the best outcome for either a writing session, rehearsal, and even just noodling at home is to feel comfortable whether that’s socially or literally, and to be honest about your style or ability as even if you may think your a terrible musician the chances are there’s other people out there or think your style is perfect
