NINA JUNE – “SEAL SKIN – ANTHEMS OF A WOMAN” + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

A Baileys with ice. Sweet and dark tones combined, just like my music.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

‚What’s Love Without a Broken Heart‘ is the third single of my upcoming album. The album is called „Seal Skin ~ Anthems Of a Woman“ and will be out March 27th. The album explores the many facets of womanhood and the navigation between different roles and stages of life. It’s deeply personal and I can’t wait to show you more of what I’ve been working on. Also, there’s a full video for What’s Love Without a Broken Heart and you can watch it now!

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

That everyone on earth has no idea what they’re doing and there’s a universal group chat where this has already been   acknowledged, but everyone’s still acting like they do have a clue.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Modern Vintage Classique

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My new album is about womanhood. When I became a mom a few years ago I was struggling with this identity, as it felt too narrow for me. Across my life, I’ve had various roles and identities and I feel like they all co-exist within me. I felt the urge to write about all of the women I’ve ever been, and all of the women I long to be. Us women, we’re multicolored beings. The songs are about loss and grief, about long lasting love, about dependence, independence and female sensuality.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’ve started kickboxing a year ago and completely fell in love with it. Best way to start the day and let off some steam. Also: I love cooking and I’m quite good at it.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

* My mum raised me with the voices of Tracy Chapman and Annie Lenox

* My dad raised me with the songs and harmonies of The Beatles and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

* I love dressing up, to add a little bit of glitter and glamour to the ordinary

* My little boy is my little everything.

* I started acting as a kid, I didn’t have a clue I could sing. I found out when I got a big part in a play which included singing some solo songs.

8. The road so far…. who or what was your biggest support??

My parents, family and friends. Especially since becoming a mom: it really takes a village if you want to be an artist and a present mum. I’m so grateful for my loved ones, they’re just the best.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Q “What belief did you hold about yourself five years ago that you now know was wrong?”

A “Five years ago, I believed it was always better to lower your expectations to avoid disappointment. Now I’ve learned that it’s   sometimes essential to let your hopes rise, to be honest with yourself about what you truly want. Even if it doesn’t work out, that’s okay. What matters is giving yourself permission to name your ambitions instead of hiding from them.”
