1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?
Ok, definitely something clear that won’t stain your clothes if it spills on you while your dancing, that’s the fucking worst lol. I’m thinking like a Vodka Soda with lime. It’s lite, it keeps you hydrated while simultaneously giving you a cute lil buzz, and if you’re with someone and y’all end up getting in each other’s mouths, etc it won’t do you dirty and have your breath smelling hella crazy LOL.
2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
Ok, so new album called “Slayerz Ball” dropping on June 7th which I’m so fucking hyped about *claps hands*. I’m playing The Peppermint Club in West Hollywood on June 13th with my amazing new band, it’s gonna be a sweaty, funky, sexy night obviously. Going to announce more shows soon!
3. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
I’d call my sense of style “Slaya Playa Core” which is basically flamboyant 70s Mack meets 80s lady of the night meets Y2K rave fashion.
4. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
I think my core philosophy for the most part with any song I make nowadays is to make people shake some ass. I love to make songs that are empowering and feel good but also with a wink and a touch of dark humor. My message to anyone listening is life is too short not to have fun and be who you wanna be and I try to make the musical equivalent of what that feeling means to me. I’ve always been heavily inspired by Disco, Funk, and G funk so everything I do I bring some of that flavor to it.
5. Besides music, do you have any special talents?
I’ve been told I’m pretty good at impressions. I think I first started doing them to make my mom laugh when I was really young. I would do the whole dinner scene in The Nutty Professor and do all the different family members. Lol, my mom used to just be laughing her ass off.
6. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
- I was born and raised in the Bay Area.
- I identify as non-binary
- I love to dance
- The 4 favorite albums really inspire me: Street Songs by Rick James, Discovery by Daft Punk, Art Pop by Lady Gaga, and Purple Rain by Prince.
- My first word as a baby was “dirty”.
7. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??
I’m self-taught. I learned from just experimenting. The first song I ever actually recorded was on this app called I Am T-Pain which was basically just an app that autotuned the fuck out of your voice so you’d sound like T-Pain. I would spend house just recording freestyles and fucking around. I learned a lot about songwriting from just bringing the artist’s entire discography that inspired me. I think in doing that you find all the deep cuts and even some of the songs that are more processed pieces and they can really give you insight into how people’s brains work.
8. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
What’s something that gets my creative juices flowing when I feel uninspired? I watch these YouTube live streams of Jellyfish in the Monterey Aquarium. I highly recommend that shit!
