G-STAR presents Archetypes, a collection rooted in the brand’s rich DNA. Built around denim, Archetypes returns to the archive to refine what has always defined G-STAR: function, purpose, and craft.
Drawing from foundational garments shaped by utility, military uniforms, workwear staples, and early performance-driven designs, the collection reinterprets these references through modern construction and refined materials. Timeless silhouettes are elevated through considered proportions, precise detailing, and durable fabrics, resulting in a focused and contemporary expression of the brand’s core.
Denim forms the backbone of the collection. Selvedge fabrics woven on vintage shuttle looms in specialist mills in Japan and Italy are used across key styles. Selected for their structure, depth, and ability to evolve with wear, these materials reflect G-STAR’s long-standing commitment to quality, durability, and authentic craftsmanship.
„G-STAR has a strong utilitarian heritage, so Archetypes began with a deep dive into our own archive. By researching historic garments and how they evolved to serve a purpose, we focused on the details that truly mattered, translating function into modern design.“ – Jennifer Zipp, Director of Design, G-STAR
The collection prioritizes everyday wearability. This return to essentials is not nostalgic, but intentional. Each piece is designed to perform in everyday life, where longevity, comfort, and adaptability are integral to modern utility. Fabric, construction, and proportion lead the design.
“For Archetypes, we went back to the core of G-STAR – to the archive, to the original purpose of the garments, to the pieces that define who we are. This premium collection is an expression of our DNA and sets the blueprint for the future of the brand.” – Gwenda van Vliet, Chief Brand Officer,
G-STAR Collection highlights include the Field Jacket, a modern reinterpretation of a style once worn by the U.S. 10th Mountain Division in Italy, defined by a clean silhouette and purposeful detailing. The Deeggie reinterprets a classic jean with a relaxed mid-rise straight fit. Made from untreated 14.25 oz Italian selvedge denim woven on original 1960s shuttle looms, it gains character with wear, with selvegde details finishing the outseam and pocket folds. The Dismounted Raincoat updates 1940s U.S. military rainwear with a refined, contemporary edge. The M-51 Cargos draw inspiration from the M-1951 shell pant, originally designed for extreme cold weather and worn over a padded liner.
