Ethan Gold – „I’m Always Sad“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

Take a three spoons of scotch and five spoons of absinthe, put them into a wooden bowl. Go into a forest and collect fifteen pine needles. Spit into the bowl, then recite your favorite poem from when you were 8 years old. Take three drops of maple from a tree, or other sap if you can’t find maple, and mix it in the bowl. Spin in a circle three times clockwise if you identify as male, counterclockwise if you identify as female, or do a somersault. Pour a quarter cup of any beer made by monks into the bowl. Pour the contents of the bowl into a glass stein, cover it with a book written between 1880-1910, and shake.  Now you may enjoy the drink, and my music.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My single “I’m Always Sad” just had a video filmed on a winter train in Latvia. My next single “When the Evening Comes” will have a video filmed in dear old Berlin, with a few lyrics in German, the only poetry I’ve ever written in German.  “When the Evening Comes” is out April 20, right after FilmFest Bremen where I’ll probably perform along with screenings of a movie I’m co-starring in called Brother Verses Brother.  I may do another show in Berlin around that time possibly.  My next album Earth City 2: Nightfolk, the second part of my Earth City trilogy, comes out May 22.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

Lemurians in Mt Shasta.  I suppose that’s not a conspiracy theory…  It’s a fact!

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Romantic professor.  That’s not yet a brand name, but someone reading this might take it and run with it.  Whatever happened to tweed, books, and dust?  Alternately, I’ll go with Scottish sailor.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

My trilogy Earth City is about the romance and the magic we still have inside us, even when so many of us feel disconnected from ourselves, from each other, and from the planet.  Man, have I felt that way a lot.  So it’s in the music.  Earth City 2: Nightfolk is the nightlife album in the trilogy.  Stories about the artists and dreamers and basically anyone with a heart who’s struggling to keep their shit together or figure out how to be in the world.  How to be with other people, how to survive the night in the city, how to find the people we can let into our little lives that are so big to us.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

Eating’s not really a talent, but I honor anyone with the gall to open a restaurant, so I’ve obsessively been to literally every restaurant and bar in six Los Angeles neighborhoods.  This activity is somewhere between sustenance, OCD, and a hobby.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

1. I dream a lot of my songs.

2. I make a lot of music videos so you can go watch them too.  It’s another art form that I love.

3. Introversion is power.  I make music for people who find the world crass.

4. Art rock for hermits.

5. I moved from LA to Berlin to get away from films but I can’t seem to escape them.

8. The road so far…. who or what was your biggest support??

The moon and the Earth.  Literally, nighttime walking, and dreaming with the moon.  And also, taking off my shoes and feeling Earth, even in winter.  As you may guess from this answer, I’m from California.  I was born and raised in the fog of San Francisco, so don’t expect normal answers in interviews.  We were born tripping.  And that means both journeying and falling down.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
