Dressed Like Boys – „Our Part Of Town“ + Exclusive Interview

Credit: Sieme Hermans

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to zip on while they listen to your new music?

I’d recommend a pint of Guinness, because it’s actually mentioned in the lyrics. ‘Our Part Of Town’ is about my hometown. There used to be a folk festival there every year where they served Guinness.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My latest single is ‘Our Part Of Town’. It’s the third single so far. Here’s the video:

I recorded this song on an old piano in a bar I used to visit a lot. You’ll notice birds singing and children playing  in the background. That’s because I actually sang the song into my phone while I was walking through my hometown.

My debut album comes out on August 29, 2025.

I’m on the cusp of starting my first club tour in Belgium, The Netherlands, France and Germany. You can find all the dates here: https://www.dressedlikeboys.com/#Tour

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)

I’m afraid, in times like these, there’s no such thing as a harmless conspiracy theory.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Dries Van Noten.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

As a gay man, my music often reflects on my sexuality and identity, as well as the ongoing struggles of the queer community throughout history. My music is deeply personal, but I think it resonates with broader themes like love, resilience and self-discovery.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I can quote whole episodes of The Simpsons, although I’m not sure if that’s a talent or just addiction.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I need books. Often they’re my fuel. I read something good and then, magically, it turns into a song.

I don’t write songs on an instrument. I write them in my head. My dearest companion while writing music, is silence.

You may not think it when you see me on stage, but I’m quite shy. It’s not that I hate people. I love people. But I’m often at my happiest when I’m alone.

I’m a bit old fashioned, I guess. I like ‘real’ instruments and old recording techniques, like tape recorders and stuff like that.

If you don’t like The Beatles, please get away from me.

8. The road so far…. who or what was your biggest support??

I’m blessed with the tremendous support of a number of people, actually. My boyfriend Nand, family, friends. My label of course, and my entourage. They’ve all been rooting for me from day one.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Q: With which philosopher do you identify the most at this time in your life?

A: Jean-Jacques Rousseau!
