DANGER SPOON – „icu <3," + Exclusive Interview

1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?

oh ahaha, u better hit that caffeine! a big neon bubble tea with too many toppings? ur fav third-wave coffee from an la coffee shop? or just down three strawberry apricot red bulls?? i wanna see u buggin out

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

i just dropped my debut single icu <3 — it’s the start of this chaotic pink pharmaceutical universe i’m building. there’s more music on the way, visuals that blend hospital-core, fuzzy pink bedroom aesthetics, bubble guns, spoons and weird corporate propaganda haha

the live show takes place during a SPOON PHARMACEUTICALS drug trial that DANGER SPOON is running without authorization. at the trial, patients have to check in and sign patient intake forms, wear hospital wristbands, experience the [HYPERPOPs] vaccine, watch unskippable pharmaceutical ads, meet “pink ableton,” get bubble gunned, rip beyblades, and raise spoons.

3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true?

prolly the conspiracy that there’s already a cure for everything and big pharma is hiding it. maybe theres a secret vaults full of cures for cancer, lupus, and every chronic illness — but they’re too busy coming up with weird medication names and jacking up prices to share it with us. so we could break in, and hand out vials on my tour!

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

y2k cyberpunk techwear meets pink fuzzy chic? paris hilton meets drop dead emo boy in a retro-futuristic timeline? if hello kitty kinda wanted to die?5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

this project, DANGER SPOON and the world of SPOON PHARMACEUTICALS is my way of personifying everything i’ve been through — poverty, loss, chronic illness, lupus, the medical system. it’s me and my life in a nutshell: chaotic, aggressive, thoroughly sick ahah, fighting to cling onto hope every day; as well as cute and fun, tongue-in-cheek, satirical, and a little cringey!

icu <3 is the beginning of a collection of songs that are meant to remind us that despite everything, whether it be adhd, anxiety, lupus, losing a parent, that no one is truly alone, that we’re allowed to dream, feel, love and complain hahaha.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

besides being a music producer, i’m also an illustrator, graphic designer, photographer, and videographer — i build a lot of the visuals for my project myself. silly superpowers? i can perfectly eyeball leftover containers and fill them right to the brim on the first try. i’m also a super taster and super smeller… the taste part is great. the smell part is a curse.

7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1. my dad died when i was 19 so he never got to hear any of the music i’m making now </3

  2. i almost died from lupus and kidney failure. now i take more pills daily than most people take in a year.

  3. i make all my stuff in pink ableton with too many tracks.

  4. i grew up in poverty with nothing but i believe u can build big worlds from tiny apartments.

  5. i write and produce all the DANGER SPOON music, design the visuals, create the pharmaceutical ads, build the world, shoot and edit the videos, and program the lighting — all by hand. every piece is made with intention, time, and skill, not money. this project is fiercely diy and built from the ground up with the help of some incredible collaborators — late nights, pink ableton, turning my living room into a stage with lights or a garment print shop, and way too many browser tabs open at once.

8. The road so far…. who or what was your biggest support??

honestly, i wouldn’t be here without my friends, collaborators, my manager, and the games and music community around me — people who believed in me before i fully believed in myself. so many have taken chances on me: inviting me into writing rooms, mix sessions, encouraging me, buying merch, showing up to shows, helping me out, and just being excited about what i’m building. that support has kept me going when things felt impossible. and i also have to shout out my doctors — they literally kept me alive, and their care and persistence are part of why this project even exists. i’m so grateful to every person who’s contributed, big or small. every lyric, visual, and show moment comes from the hands of people who care. i hope that shows.

9. What’s your dream tour rider?

a bubble machine, unlimited sashimi and pho broth, a bed and mattress on stage, a gigantic beyblade arena, a portable claw machine full of weird pink plushies and pills, and all the meds and one doctor on call — just in case. 😉
