1. Thank you very much for your time! Before we introduce your new release to our readers – what kind of drink would you recommend to sip on while they listen to your new music?
A (very dirty) gin martini because it’s in the very first lyric of the new song 🙂
2. Please give us an update about your new single „Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night“ and the music video. Tell us more about the music?
I am so excited for this release! The song is about a lot of different things for me. I actually wrote it as a slower, emotional ballad, but when I teased a sped-up clip on TikTok, I was quickly convinced to re-record it as a pop song. “Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night” to me is about becoming a chameleon in certain social settings because you’re too uncomfortable to honor who you actually are and what you actually want.
I’ve found myself in this situation far too many times. The music video touches on that concept, but also adds an optimistic twist. As corny as I’m making it sound, the end of the video demonstrates *the power of friendship* and how having someone you really trust and love around can make life a lot easier, even when you’re shapeshifting.
3. We live in times of many conspiracy theories. Which, harmless, theory would you wish were true? (For example Dinos living inside Earth or E.T. living in a home in California)
As a Pacific Northwest native I have to say Bigfoot.
4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
Sporty and preppy aesthetic for sure. It’s a style I’ve had since I first started releasing music, and even before. My first EP is called “Athletic Genius” and my most popular song from last year is called “Existential Crisis at the Tennis Club.” I just love that vibe.
5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
I still have to work “day jobs” to be able to support music. I like to write about that work-life balance a lot, especially from the POV of someone who has really only ever worked customer service jobs/food service jobs. I like to talk about “the system” in a critical way. I like to relate these themes to my love life too. Everything’s connected when you really zoom out.
6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?
Not sure if this counts, but I’m a really good student and can write a mean essay. I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in political science and international security last year!
7. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
1. I am lyrics-first, always
2. I take walks almost every day to clear my artist brain and find inspiration
3. I’ve read The Artists Way three times… and you should too!
4. I really pay attention to comments and messages online and am truly so grateful for everyone’s support so far <3
5. I would really love to release my first album soon(ish)
8. The road so far…. who or what was your biggest support??
Both my parents have been a huge support from the beginning, especially my dad. He’s at every show, he makes TikToks using my sounds, he hand screen-prints my merch for me, and he knows every lyric. I’ve been at this for four years with steady progress, but with no real “fame or fortune” yet. Nonetheless, he has never wavered in his belief in me or my career. That is a huge reason why I’m still so dedicated and locked in.
9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls
Spirit animal? Orca Whale. I have the most vivid and intense dreams about orcas once every month without fail but I’ve never seen one in the flesh. They’re so terrifying but so beautiful and intelligent. They also value togetherness and community which is also so cool.
