Growing up in Japan as half German, Thirteen13 (real name Nina) has has a unique upbringing being a rare mixed person in an area where standing out and not ‘belonging’ is deeply shunned by society. She developed a ‘birds eye view’ perspective on life in Japan as an outsider which is reflected deeply in her music. Although fluent in English, creating music in Japanese is important to Nina as it allows her to convey a message directly to the society she was once shunned by.
