sunsetto – „downtown“ + Exclusive Interview

Intro yourself in few words:

What’s up, I’m sunsetto. I’m an artist, producer and songwriter from Nova Scotia, Canada.

New single/ album/ tour date/ videos:

My new song “Downtown” just came out. It’s getting a super positive response and that feels amazing. I’m currently working on my next single called “funny” as well as the rest of my debut EP which will be 7 songs.

5 things to know about sunsetto:

  1. I wrote and produced most of my current music myself
  2. I was raised on an island in Nova Scotia Canada called “Cape Breton”
  3. I’ve been making music in my bedroom for about 9 years
  4. Skateboarding is a huge passion of mine and I go skate any chance I get.
  5. I sold my car to fly to California this year, dropped my first song and signed my first deal

What fashion style / brand best describes your music?

I don’t know much about fashion. I’d skate through all of my shoes, and ruin my shirts and pants from skating all the time.. so I always wore second hand clothes growing up. I like baggy fitting clothes, Nike SB splash/track pants, and loose button up t shirts.

More about songs – topics – messages:

All of my songs on this are about relationships. At the moment I’m not the best at expressing how I feel – but when I’m in the studio and can reflect on things, the way I truly feel comes out in my music better than I could ever say it in conversation.

Besides music – any special talents?

No, that’s pretty much it.. I’m good at skateboarding, I can cook delicious pasta, and I can make music. That’s as far as my talent goes.

Being on stage feels like..

I’ve never been skydiving.. but I imagine that it feels similar to being on stage in front of an audience. You’re scared at first especially before you take the dive.. And after you dive you’re still scared.. but super focused. I bet once you pull the parachute and you’re gliding smoothly through the air after all the hard work is done you feel on top of the world. Just like a live performance on stage.

How did you learn to sing/play/write

I started writing rap verses in my room around the time I started making beats in FL studio. I was about 15. I would rap with my friends and have rap battles at the skatepark.. eventually I applied for this writing camp and submitted my rap songs. As a fluke I got into the camp and it turned out to be Grammy award winning songwriter Gordie Sampson’s song-camp for young aspiring Nova Scotian song-writers. I got invited back for six more of those camps from the time I was 15 to 21 and it was life changing. During that time is when I played a lot more guitar and sang more often on my demos. It was a lot of practice and

A lot of YouTube videos to figure out chords I liked on guitar.

A question you’d like to be asked

No one has asked me yet in an interview what my favorite albums are.. I like talking about my favorite music and am only now getting used to talking about my own.. so some of my all time favorite albums are: “My beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” by Kanye.. “Man on the Moon part ii” by Kid Cudi.. “The Space Between” by Majid Jordan.. “Nothing was the same” by Drake.. “Days Before Rodeo” by Travis Scott.
