Sam Evian – ‘Time To Melt’ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello Sam, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words.

Hi, thanks for having me. I live in the Catskill Mountains and run a recording studio called ‘Flying Cloud,’ where I produce music for myself and other artists.

2. Please give us an update about – the new single, upcoming album, tour dates, the new video „Knock Knock“.

My new record ‘Time To Melt’ comes out on October 29th. I recorded it mostly at home (and alone) over the course of lockdown 2020/21. Normally I bring a band into the studio to capture a performance of a song, but this time – because of covid- I went down the rabbit hole by myself. It was empowering to test my limits as an instrumentalist. I was lucky to have some friends send in some remote performances, but mostly I was locked in my studio alone, fiddling with the arrangements, performances and mixes. I felt – melted- in a nice way.

I’ll bring the album on the road for a short Northeastern US tour in November. We’re hoping to fill out a more complete tour schedule in early 2022, including full Europe and North America.

The video for ‘Knock Knock’ was shot by my friend Josh Goleman, and features my other friend Keenan O’Meara. It was a trip to work on. I think Josh did an amazing job with the cinematography and story.

3. Please name 5 things we should all know about you as an artist.

  • I love cooking
  • I love cooking pasta
  • I am obsessed with my dog Jan
  • I love collaborating with other artists. I learn the most when I work on other people’s music.
  • I love duke ellington.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I actually commissioned Amber Doyle, a designer and tailor, to create a suit that would vibe with my record. She came up with the blue/flowery/psych soul suit that is in my press photos and music videos.

5. Please tell us more about the topics/message of your songs.

I write what I’m feeling. Sometimes it comes out as a song about the political situation in america. Sometimes its about a lonely disillusioned android who is in denial about their upcoming recall. Sometimes both of those things are the same.

6. Besides making music, do you have any special talents?

I’m a pretty decent chef 🙂

7. Being on stage feels like….?

butterflies

8. How did you learn how to sing/ to write/ to play?

My parents are jazz musicians, so I learned music through them…and then I found the beatles.

9. A question you would like to answer, but you have never been asked before in an interview?

What floats?
