Post-Modern Connection -„Folie a Deux“ + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi, we’re Post-modern Connection, a genre bending indie band from BC Canada! We’ve been making music since 2018 and are currently will be releasing our first EP this fall. Our newest single Folie a Duex just released, and it is the first single of our EP.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

We just released the first single of our EP along with a very cool video. The song is a mix of surf rock and indie rock with a classic rock inspired solo. It describes just how convoluted the experience of self-discovery can be. Sometimes trying to reflect and question yourself can be a confused and muddled dialogue. Our good friend, David Vassiliev, directed and shot this song’s video. Taking inspiration from Wes Anderson’s films, David helped us get into character and chose our location, complete with incredible views from a paragliding jump point.

Like we’ve said we’ve got an EP releasing this fall, October actually. It’s called “Clustered Umbrella” and has 5 songs. Folie a Deux being one of them. It’s a nice mix of songs that pull on many different influences and genres but still feel connected. We’re very excited for people to listen. But before that we’ve got another single coming out September 23rd. There will also be a video for that which will be focused a bit on the creative process of how our EP was made. Oh, fun tidbit, we’ve also been working on cool mobile game for our EP. So we’re super excited to release that as well.

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

  • We mix a lot of influences, from Bossa Nova to Jazz, to Soul RnB and Gospel. Old School synthpop to funk. We love to blend things into sounds we like. We’re never afraid to borrow.
  • Majority of the band are former international students. We met in university and started the band then.
  • We started out as duo with Georges (lead gtr) and Tega (Lead vox/rhythm gtr) then grew to 4 people then 5
  • We’ve got an EP coming out this fall along with another single and video and a game!
  • We love it when people dissect our music in a good way. It’s cool to see people pointing the different influences they here or who they think we sound like.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Internet Indie Kid. Early 90s nostalgia.

What’s your songwriting process?

We usually start writing songs after being inspired by other songs. Lately we’ve been consuming lots Bossa Nova and RnB and Doo Wop so we’ve been making more and more songs like that. Outside of overall vibes, we hear things in songs that make us go “Oh I wanna make a song like that”.

Ours songs start with either Tega or Georges. we make songs independently of each other and then show the other at whatever stages we’re at. Tega tends to write a full skeleton song with leads and rhythm guitar and bass. At which him and Georges usually work on it together to flesh out structure, then we show it to the band who then change the drum lines and bass lines and Mitch adds violin and or synth parts and we make any final changes to structure. Georges makes songs on his own and will sometimes make full skeleton or stop at rhythm and leads and then him and Tega get together to flesh out the song a bit more before showing the band who then make more changes. We never write in the studio and probably never will.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

We’d make it easier for people to find new artists. There is a lot of gatekeeping in the industry, and it takes away from real art being discovered. There’s ton of incredible artists that so many people haven’t heard of because the industry has made it difficult for them to be heard.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

Usually, our songs deal with experiences and humane relationships in general. Tega writes all the lyrics, and they deal with his experiences. From feelings of depression to unhealthy relationships to questioning and self discovery and love. He hopes that by being candid with his experiences other people feel like they can relate.
