MESSINA – Y B T R י ב ט ר – Visualizer + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi, we’re Gian and Raphi, we’re half of the the art-pop-band MESSINA from Switzerland.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Our debut-album SPONSORED POST is out November 19th, there will be a MESSINA video-game released in early December and also, there will be an exhibition with visual art-pieces to each song of our album. We released a lot of singles during this year that are also on the album. The last one was Y B T R י ב ט ר. We’ve been working so hard on everything for this album-release during the last two years and it’s really nice to see it come together like this!

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

We do our own management, so we have to decide everything for ourselves.

For our comeback show after corona, we organised our own festival and also invited some friends to play.

Nicola plays three synthesizers at once. So his left hand has been our bass-player since the start of the band.

Gian and Raphi grew up in the same little village in Switzerland and played their first concert together when Gian was about 8 years old.

Now they live together as roommates in Winterhur.

Our guitarist Jonathan is also a photographer and sometimes takes pictures during concerts.

After he dressed up as a cowboy for a videoshoot, we decided that he has to be dressed like that for some shows as well.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Extravagant with a mustache.

What’s your songwriting process?

We write the music together. We jam on a certain theme, build up and then decide which parts stay or if anything is missing.

After that, we organize the different parts and only then the main melody and the lyrics are written.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I think, we would make sure that success is depending on quality and devotion. And also that successful artists should try to help build up new artists.

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

The songs on the album circle around the subject of consumption and about how we can question ourselves in this world but still be kind to us and to others. Even if we’re not perfect. But obviously, that’s only the second layer. The lyrics themselves are often very ironic and mean.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

How did it feel to listen to the mixes of the new album for the first time? Gian: A feeling of big relief and pride, but also a lot of respect for the work we still had to do.
