“Expression of the self” is what I like to call the fashion nowadays. You just step into the store and put your eyes on the clothing item that resonates the most with your personality.

But let’s go back dozens of years ago when there was no such thing of expressing your personality through clothing. The common people led a simple life with very few needs. Most of them had two or three outfits, of which one they only wear on special occasions like Sundays at the Church.

But how fashion evolved so much and how fast fashion come to be part of most people life? Fascinating topic indeed, but what most people don’t usually think of is the influence on a bigger level than fast fashion has in this world.

Therefore, with no further ado, in today’s post, we’re presenting our main pros and cons regarding fast fashion, but not before we provide a bit of insight into fast fashion.

What is Fast Fashion, and How Did it Happen?

First things first, what do they mean by fast fashion? Well, I bet we all know all those affordable stores in the mall like H&M, Zara, and Bershka. Think a bit about them. The items in these stores change according to fashion, but the quality of their items is actually not that good.

Why? Because they are producing items that are meant to be worn one or a few times so you can always wear the latest fashion. That’s why they’re so affordable – so you can keep up with the fashion. So, fast fashion means stores that produce affordable items meant to wear a few times so normal people can keep up with the fashion world.

OK, but how did it all happen? Why people have this need to wear the latest trends? What changed that three outfits are no longer sufficient and that we constantly need new clothes because we are ashamed to wear the same item more than once?

Well, think simple – back then, most people were sewing their clothes, and their purpose was of protection of their body. Things chance once with the technology that comes with the Industrial Revolution.

Materials were cheaper and easier to produce, and so were clothes. Shops were created, and their affordability changed, slowly, peoples’ perception of clothes. Their perception changed so much that around the 70s, people began to express themselves through clothing. People started taking this into an advantage and turned peoples’ need to express themselves into a business idea meant to make fashion more affordable for everyone.

While it all seems pretty amazing, let’s now take a critical look at fast fashion and list downs the pros and cons of this industry.

Pros

Affordable Clothing

Affordability is a really good thing. Everyone should be able to afford the clothes that represent their personality the most. Fashion is part of our life, and no one should be denied just because of their financial status. Like in school, students should be provided with essay help, so should society help normal people to express themselves as everybody does.

Accessible Clothing

Accessibility is another wonderful thing that happened. Clothing is everywhere nowadays – it’s almost in every store. If back then, you had to go to the town to make an order for a piece of material and wait days and weeks until you have new clothing, now you have it at the corner of the street.

Diversity

Oh, how I love the diversity of nowadays. You want to get help from a research essay writing service, you have plenty to choose from. You want a funkier store of clothing, you have plenty to choose from. There are dozens of stores for any possible style you can imagine – vintage, gothic, pop, elegant, you name it.

Cons

Waste – Throwaway Culture

According to a top custom essay service, the fast fashion industry produces a lot of waste. The producers are throwing away good clothes instead of donating them, and clothing is not biodegradable. Not to mention how much clothing is thrown away daily by their customers.

The throwaway culture is the people who wear an item once and then throw it away – do you realize what this means on a higher level? There’s too much waste because of how superficial people can be nowadays.

Exploited Workers

Probably the worst part of the fast fashion industry is the way the workers are exploited. The companies are looking to hire the cheapest workers from poor countries. But this can be sort of understandable. What isn’t understandable, according to a reputable essay paper, is that they are underplayed for their work, and their workplace is miserable and not save many times. We are all humans, regardless of some cultures’ governments.

Conclusion

Fast fashion is a good thing that happened to our society – it filed in a need in our life. But at the same time, it created major problems in this world, and good did doesn’t make up for a bad did.

If people with the right power in their hands would only care about the good of this planet, they could’ve found a solution to reduce the waste and care about their employees. Things are slowly changing, people start taking action, and this is a beautiful change.

Even more, fashion shouldn’t be our primary interest. Fashion is good to make us feel good and confident in our skin, but throwaway culture is toxic for our mental state and for our planet. Change is still required, and I believe we can all learn from our mistakes.
