KID DAD – „As Soon As America“ + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hey, thank you for having us!
We’re a band called KID DAD and we’re from Germany. Our project started back in 2016 when we wrote mainly Grunge/Punk songs, now we‘re less of a genre band but very open to any type of inspirations!

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

As a forerunner for our new EP „Bloom“ which will be out on December 10th this year, we released two singles since July, one called „Apartment“ and another, the recent one, called „As Soon As America“. With the latest release we also announced our „Bloom Tour EU/UK“ for the beginning of 2022 and we’re very much looking forward for this! We have always made music videos for every single we ever release so „As Soon As America“ got one, too. It’s about the bizarre picture of America we grew up with and an exclamation mark for pacifism so definitely worth a click!

Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!

We’re very sensitive,
everything will be discussed until the end,
we stand for equality, love, peace and against hate & discrimination,
we make music as a catalysator for our emotions
you’d never meet everyone of us randomly at the same concert.

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Well, that’s a cool question haha! I guess it would be some style that combines the typical „loser“ look from American high school movies with an idividual, legere touch and a little bit of gothic!

What’s your songwriting process?

That’s pretty hard to say because every song is written so individually. Some while at work, some in depressive moments under the blanket, some out of pure happiness while on holidays. Maybe that’s one of the secrets of our diverse sound. What’s similar to them all is that Marius writes them and then we as a band really bring it to life together.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Gender equality (especially for Line-Ups), better payment fort he creatives & a bigger environmental awareness

Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Massage?!

That’s pretty hard to put into a few words because it kinda depends on the time we are talking about. On our debut record we sang about being a loser leaving school, smoking, wearing punk clothes and so on. With our first big album it kinda went from punk to emo and we wrote rather dark songs about depression and the stuff that kept us awake at night – very introvert. Now with „Bloom“ we pretty much woke up from this depressive pandemic nightmare and kicked in doors we never expected to open, for example politics. Even though we grew up with Green Day and Rage Against The Machine we never were a band that felt the need of writing songs about big political topics until Donald Trump entered the stage, which lead to „As Soon As America“. And more than this. Every song on this new EP is so individual and special to us because we always have the aspiration to only bring out records that show every emotional layer that represents this band in a songwriting phase. You’ll find everything at a KID DAD concert: from depressive to happy, from quiet to loud.

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?!

How do you deal with having only  two people with a driver’s license in this band?

It’s HORRIBLE!
