Hamid J – „Three Way Call“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hey guys! My name is Hamid J. I grew up in Germany, in a really small town near Koeln, before moving to Los Angeles. I am beyond excited to take the dreams from my 6-year old self, and turn them into reality. In a nutshell, I’m just a soul who loves music!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

My newest EP „LoveStruck“ dropped Oct. 29 featuring 3 tracks, including the lead single „3Way Call“. I was inspired to write this song, because I thought it was interesting and maybe silly that certain topics still remain taboo to talk about. Even among friends. In this new age of pushing boundaries and exploration it was important to bring this topic up to mainstream in hopes for us to be able to talk about this and other topics more freely. At minimum, I hope we can begin this dialogue within ourselves.
The music video was so much fun to create. Choreographed by Beau Fournier and directed by Matt Cady (both creative masterminds), I hope it will stimulate the senses – from colors, to settings and of course the bathtub…
I’ve already begun working on the next EP, ten. scheduled to come out Feb, 2021. Working to create a visual journey to go along with it.

Touring is currently on hold, but for sure will be putting a couple if IG lives/livestreams out there.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

– Inspired by many but my foundation comes from George Michael, Prince, Michael Jackson and Robyn.
– I co-write and co-produce my songs (such a powerful release)
– I think visuals are so important in consuming music. (maybe edibles & custom drinks in the future)

– love learnings songs in different languages (to date: Spanish, French, German, Farsi, Portugese)
– incredibly proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I don’t think that one brand or specific style necessarily describes my music, since I want my music to be ever changing, just like me. Evolving with times and always exploring!
I think my music reflects bright colors, a sense of edge, and a bit of mystery – If I could go back in time and collaborate with a designer on „3Way Call“ it for sure would have included Alexander McQueen and Jeremy Scott. Pushing the envelope, taking risks to show one’s authentic self.

5. Do you have bad habits? A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?

A few… but bad habits include: randomly abbreviating words no one understands, turning anything into a musical moment, and honking (prob the tiniest bit too much). My guilty pleasure for sure is drinking Monster energy drinks: at least one a day, as many as 5/6… I know

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

soccer & improv (I know what, a combo)

7. Being on stage feels like….!

transcending to be the most authentic version of myself. Feels like flying. Like breathing with such ease.

8. Must Have – and No-Go in your Wardrobe! – Favourite Fashion Brand and Fragrance?

Must have: a pair of good chunky shoes

No Go: Von Dutch trucker hats (sorry)

Favorite Fashion Brand: John Varvatos, McQueen, Puma, Jeremy Scott, Givenchy

Fragrance: K by Dolce & Gabbana; Luna Rossa Sport by Prada;

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Are there any artists who have created the space for you to be so comfortable in your skin – gave you the confidence to be authentic?

Absolutely: artists like George Michael, Elton John, David Bowie and Madonna have all in their own ways had to go through their struggles, face public opinion and their demons to ultimately find the strength to be who they are at the core. Because of them, I don’t feel like I have to pretend, I have to conform, or be anything other than who I am.
