Fox Jackson – “Like You In Every Way” + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

London based singer/songwriter I have been enamoured by music from as young as I can remember. Inspired by the likes of artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Prince and Pharrell Williams, his music blends funk-fuelled melodies, sexy vocals and dance-worthy beats, creating a vibrant and distinct sound which is undeniably his own.

My career in the entertainment industry began at just 11 years old, when I landed the lead role as Billy Elliot, in the hit West End musical „Billy Elliot the Musical“. My time there solidified my desire to be on stage, while also pushing me to dive deeper into the world of music. Following multiple roles on both stage and TV, I soon made an easy transition to my first love and true calling, music. Discovering my own sound and style, I have since been crafting music, with the intention to make listeners smile.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Like You in Every Way is about

My new single is a blend of funk soul and pop, its a 70’s throw back song inspired by the likes of Michael Jackson, Nile Rodgers and a pinch of Pharrell Williams! The song opens with soft piano to lull you into a false sense of security so when the funky guitars start and the beat kick in, it springs you into that full pop banger with Lavish production!

When I was writing this song I wanted the message to my partner to be that they could believe in me. I wanted something that said more than just “I love you”. My partner was having doubts at the time as to whether or not we would work or be good together. I wanted something that would blow all those cobwebs away, “Like you in every way” is about allowing yourself to trust another, regardless of the doubts. There is nothing so deadly to a fresh relationship as too many questions, sometimes you just have to let go of those fears and trust that you want to be together.  Yes! there will be a video, it is currently in production and will come out at the end of July! without giving to much of the game away we want to shoot something that is a bit more performance based! my last music video „Behind Closed Doors“ had a strong story line to it, This time i want to show off and flex my sexy dancing skills! so think Micheal Jackson’s „Don’t Stop Till you Get Enough“ Unfortunately I don’t have any live gigs coming up at the moment, but I do often play locally… I always keep my socials updated, so you can check me out on my instagram for all the latest deets and dates!

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?

1. When we do band rehearsal our jam sessions go for hours. We always keep it tight.

2. So far we have not turned down a single opportunity that comes our way.

3.I build my tracks like a baker bakes cake. One big sweet juicy layer after another.

4.I always have new music, licks, melodies, lyrics and ideas bouncing around in my head. There will always be something new ready from me.

5.My top 5 favourite fruits of all time! Number 5 Bananas. Number 4 Apples. Number 3 Tangerines. Number 2 Lychees. Finally number 1, my top fruit of all time, the humble Tomato

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

As a brand we are much like Golden Lion because we are sweet and silky, we feel good in your ears and we stick there!  For a fashion style I would have to say Levi’s, as I hope my music is something that will fit every generation. A good pair of jeans just feel right, I hope that’s is also what people say when listing to my music. Myself and my producer Nick Burns make music from a time that has passed, so the older generation will get that references such as Micheal Jackson and Chic. They will know we are funk and soul boys at heart. But the young crowd will year the new influences like Anderson Paak’s and Steve Lacy’s.  Also like Levi’s we don’t just do the one thing. We have variety of styles to pick from! Whether thats something a bit more funky „Behind Closed Doors“ or a bit more pop from „Like You in Every Way“ ! you have different options to try on! and there is much more on the way

5. What’s your songwriting process?

When I compose music and lyrics I try to let my subconscious dictate where I should start off and end up. This can mean letting ideas, imagery and words float around in my mind until one of them jumps out at me. This often becomes the centre, heart or crux of the song. Sometimes it’s a single word, sometimes it’s a refrain or a nice melody. Often it’s a single sentence that gets caught in my mind, and often, this becomes the chorus. “Like you in every way” was one of these phrases. I try not to limit myself to writing music at a designated time. Instead I just have ideas come to me throughout the day; I also never really write anything down, so when something comes to me it has to really be memorable or poignant to stay with me. Like you in every way has stayed with me because it was simply how I was feeling at the time. Rather than something contrived, it was just a fact.

6. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

That more people know about Fox Jackson and his plans to take over the music industry by storm. But for real if there was one thing that I would like to change, it would be that people take more interest in new artist’s trying to find a voice. As an up and coming musician I have played lots of pub gigs and cover sets. which can be fun as well, but a lot of the time you are just background noise. So I always love and cherish the times i can play my original music! I know a lot of my artist friends feel a smilar way! We all just want a moment to shine like the little stars that we are

7. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

When i was a kid i had a thing about picking thing up different skills, so to name a few…I was a competitive gymnast from the age of 7-12 and won gold in London a few times for my age group and I have been known to still do flips and shit to this day! I loved dance as you already know from being in Billy Elliot, my interest manly being hip hop and breaking. I can Juggle, use a diablo and devil sticks, not to brag but I’m a pretty sick at using a Ripstick (not a sex thing, just google it).

8.  A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

If you could play any stage in the whole world, what would it be and why?

There is only one answer to this question! I would play at the 02 Academy in Brixton. For me, that is THE dream venue. It’s where I have seen most of my favourite artists such as Tom Misch, Tyler the Creator and Leon Bridges and it has never let me down! It’s a big venue but at the same time intimate and interesting, that definitely falls in line with what I want for myself as an artist.  Being a London boy it would also feel great to play such an iconic venue, it’s in my home town and also part of the DNA of the London music scene.

My biggest goal is that one day I can play there and pull a Robbie Williams and get the audience to sing all my songs for me…just kiddin‘.
I have a dream board in my room with some of my musical inspirations to help me put the things I want into reality, and you can bet your bottom dollar at the centre of that is playing the 02 Academy.
