Eleanor K – ‘Cry In Givenchy’ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

My name is Eleanor, I am an artist and producer and singer in the band, ‘Crystal Fighters’ and I am really bad at spelling.

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I just released the music video for my thirds single, ‘Cry In Givenchy’ which was directed by, ‘Jack Fox’ where I get to prance around in clothes I could never afford pretending to be sassier than I could ever be in real life. I have my fourth single coming out in January before the album which is set for release at the end of Feb called, ‘Everytime’s The Last Time’ which is essentially narrating the last five years touring, overcoming addiction issues and settling into a slightly less frantic world.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

I produce everything myself, I have been touring for 10 years prior to this, I write narratively and openly to what I’m experiencing at the time, I don’t believe in staying ridged to a genre, I also write for other artists.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Think, weekend in Paris meets an overcast day in California. Givenchy in the early days of ‘54 before all of the cash.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

The record is a journey going in and out of addiction, torment, and eventually finding my way out of it. The message is, keep going, keep forgiving, don’t let resentment consume you, control only the things you can, and be at peace with the things you can’t.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I can do the splits in any high pressure environment. That’s useful. I also have a special talent at managing to French exit any party seamlessly with no questions, even after doing the splits.

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Being 10 years old and getting every present you asked for on Christmas Day, ‘including the Gymnastics Action man your mother didn’t approve of x200. It’s euphoric. There is no feeling like it. I have cried many times on stage from how overwhelmingly brilliant it is as an experience. Connecting with people through music is one of the most powerful things. Even on a record it’s something special, so being able to translate that to live is something I think everyone should experience.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

My Grandpa taught my the Violin at 3, the piano at 5 and then I naturally started singing alongside that around 6, which is also when I started experimenting with writing. I got fixated with music and would think or do anything else other than that. I started singing with jazz bands around 12, which taught me a lot and then went to a full time music school at 14. I’m sure I was incredibly annoying to be around.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

I would like to be asked, “do you think you have to naturally have a skill in order to peruse it, for example, music and music production” and my answer would be, no. I think anything you truly set your mind to achieve, you absolutely will achieve. You just have to get obsessed with it and really want it. I was not naturally good at producing music initially. It was overwhelming and felt impossible but I so desperately wanted to not have to rely on someone and them having the keys to your creativity. It felt impossible and took years, but in the end I got there and it was the most liberating feeling. It taught me one of my favourite lessons which is just, keep going, always.
