EES – „Jagga Jagga“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

It‘s a pleasure, thank you for the Interview!

Ok so here we go, I am a born an raised Namibian – my great great great ancestors came to Africa from Germany round about 130 years ago. I started doing music in my last year of school and just knew tjis was my calling – making music and to combine the african rhythm and lifestyle into my music.

I am an independent musician – meaning I do exactly the music I love doing and spread a positive vibe doing so with my online vlogs and sound.

I have been doubted many times in my music career – by my answer to that is song: https://youtu.be/V-kcTwzw1Lc

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

WOOOW, yeah there is a lot happening right now – well – a few months back – during Covid lockdown times – there was actually NOTHING much happening – so all my creative work was compressed and released now in the last couple of months!-)

So my new Album coming out on the 17th September 2012 is called „Game Changer“ – yes, I know a big Name for an Album – but that is exactly what it should be for the music industry and my musical journey. A statement that one can do what one loves and be who you want to be – without being pressured by the music industry to fit into the game and be commercially compatible.

The Album was created by inviting 4 very well know Music producers from Germany to my home country Namibia and drive around the desert and wilderness with my old VW bus and produce/record the album between wild Leopards and Rhinos. The Film to the journey will also be released with the Album launch – here a short trailer to the Film

I just released the 6th single „Jagga Jagga“ – the last single before the album drops – a song that expressed your own dance style – meaning dance how you want to and just express who you are with your own authentic and individual dance!-)

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

1. My music genre is called „Kwaito“ – its an original southern African sound (mix of House, Reggae and HipHop) an early anti-apartheidt movement music

2. I am releasing my 14th Album now, crazy hey🤪 and have my own shoe brand (handmade in Namibia)

3. I have won some of the biggest music awards in Africa (including the MTV Africa Listeners Choice Award, best Kwaito music video in Africa, and received a African grammy nomination for the best Album in Africa)

4. I write and mix my music on my own – being a trained sound engineer, this helped me produce more music than average artists!-)

5. I won the X-Factor in Germany in 2018 with my band – even thou all odds were against us as the producers of the show told me to perform cover songs and not my own songs!-)

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

I like very colourful cloths with african patterns. I guess its because of my namibian culture and openess to express positivity through my music. I have my own clotjing line since 15 years already – including a footwear collection. Many of my design incorporate the Namibian Flag colours – our flag has 5 colours – with a bright yellow sun.

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

As already mentioned – my music is an expression of me doing what I love and pushing a positive vibe of togetherness – no matter what skin colour, religion or culture.

Most of my songs are very personal and inspirational like „Just Do It“, „Never Hold Us Down“, „We Are One“ the list goes on. In Namibia I am very much know for my songs of Unity and also anti-GBV (gender based violence) – songs like „Magic“ or „Chooser“.

My new song „1×1“ on my new Album talks about two topics which is close to my heart – the current illegal timber harvesting and rhino poaching going on in southern Africa. A demand for these two resources which comes from China and is killing the ecosystem. Its important to me to also talk about these serious topics and create awareness for this things happening.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I am a very creative person – so besides music I also love designing and cutting videos – which all feeds into my main craft music – because that way I can design my own cd covers and cut my own music videos. So everything you see – will somehow be created by myself!-)

7. Being on stage feels like….!

…my second home! It’s a complete honour have the attention of others and be able to perform your own songs. The energy exchange that happens on stage between artist and crowd is very difficult to explain! but it is very magical.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

I guess the universe just picked me and is using me to be a messanger of their messages to humans.

If you love what you do and spend lots of time on it – then you automatically become better at it! And people see when you genuinely are having fun with your craft and that it is authentic.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

No not really, the questions were really good, thank you. All I definitely want to add is:

please be aware of what music you listen to and what the energy and message is in that music – because music has such great power it effects your life and mood.
