Hot on the heels of his recent viral parody track ‘Valentine’s Day’, amassing millions of streams across all his tracks to date and fresh from signing to Ministry of Sound Recordings, the popular Birmingham-based bassline producer and DJ, Bassboy is back with his new track ‘Ice Cream Man’.
Produced and written by Bassboy – and created from scratch in less than 30 minutes – the track samples the iconic ice cream van sound that sound tracked so many of our childhood summers and is set to soundtrack this summer and beyond! The track features an addictive mix of Bassboy’s distinctive UK rap style, infamous sampling, smart lyricism and unique and endearing sense of humour that has already earned him a legion of fans (he counts AC Slater, Lost Frequencies and even Drake amongst them) and is set to garner hoards more.
Already having a viral moment after Bassboy shared a clip to his Instagram and attracted over 140,000 views in just a matter of days, the track is further brought to life by a must-see visual directed by OLVRG (Rude Kid, Wande Coal) which sees the ice cream man himself getting into all kinds of sticky situations in a custom ice cream van.
Standing at the forefront of the UK bassline movement and as skilled at making melodic, hook-driven garage as he is breathless, peak-time club bangers, Bassboy has spent the last decade perfecting his skills as both a DJ and a producer, collaborating with many of the greats of UK dance music, working with the likes of Skepta, Trilla and Slmzee and building a dedicated fanbase by touring relentlessly up and down the country – including supporting Preditah on his nationwide tour.
Initially starting to record comical videos in his house to help himself get out of a depression after breaking his leg on a trip in Ayia Napa back in 2009 and then posting them to his Facebook, it was years later he decided to combine his love for comedy with the SoundCloud rap style of music he had also been making. This resulted in Bassboy’s first truly viral moment and the rest, as they say, is history!
With tens of millions of streams across his Spotify, Soundcloud and YouTube platforms and support from across the globe – Bassboy is perfectly poised to take his exciting movement to even higher heights.
