Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!
My name is Alex Kennedy and I’m a singer/songwriter and guitarist from Surrey, UK.
Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
I’m rereleasing my first ever single, ‘Baby Steps’, on January 10th 2020. It’s remix of the original version which I’m really proud of. I’m also releasing a brand new music video with this song on the same date which has been made with cartoon animation. I can’t wait for people to see it! My debut EP, ’Square One’, is due for release early this year. It’s a six track EP with a real mix of songs on it from upbeat rocky tracks like, ’Now That It’s Over’, and more laid back songs like the acoustic, ‘Words’. I’m currently in the studio rehearsing with my band and looking at touring soon.
Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!
a. I play a PRS Studio guitar. I always wanted something that’s versatile and I fell in love with this guitar the moment I played it. It covers so much ground and it’s so easy to switch between bright choppy funk chords and long sustained guitar solos!
b. I’ve done loads of session work for upcoming and emerging artists but I’m only now releasing my own original music… Just feels like the right time.
c. I love detuning my guitar into weird and wonderful tunings to see what I come up with. Sometimes, I find the most inspiration from moving away from what I already know.
d. I sometimes cheat with my backing vocals… I’ve got a great foot pedal called a ’TC Helicon Harmnoy Singer’ which actually harmonises my voice with my own voice LIVE. It’s very strange but also a complete game changer when you can’t find backing singers at the drop of a note!
e. I also play drums…
f. What can we expect 2020 from you?
Most importantly, I’m releasing my debut EP – ‚Square One’. I’m so excited for it to be out there and for people to listen to it.
Do you have bad habits? A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?
I play PS4… Currently playing Hideo Kojima’s latest game called ‘Death Stranding’. I’d try to explain it to you but I’d need to write an essay.
Beside music, do you have any special talents?
Not really a talent but I’m an adrenaline junkie! I’ve bungee jumped off the tallest bridge in the world in South Africa and base jumped off the highest building in the southern hemisphere in Auckland.
Being on stage feels like….!
Home! I definitely feel most alive and comfortable performing as it’s something I’ve just always done.
8. Must Have – and No-Go in your Wardrobe! – Favorite Fashion Brand and Fragrance?
I wear Crocs in the Summer. It’s both a Must Have and a No-Go.
9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?!
What’s your favourite guitar solo you’ve ever learnt? For me, anything by Stevie Ray Vaughn is a masterclass in guitar playing, one of my favourite solos being, ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’.
