Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!
Thanks heaps for having us! We are a four piece band out of Perth, WA called Dear Sunday!
Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!
Well, we don’t really have a new single, or album coming out.. BUT instead releasing a nice little 4 song EP package with “Teleport” being the lead single for it! We are incredibly excited to release this into the world, it has been a long time coming… as for tour dates, we are doing a little regional tour around the south west coast and Perth from late November to early December which you can find dates via our Instagram. As for videos.. nothing really on the cards yet, but we try and get pretty creative with our skits for our socials, so go check it out there and tell us how good (it’s really bad) our acting is.
Name 5 things we all should know about you as a band?!
- Ben and Cal were in a band before Dear Sunday.
- Eligh has only been playing drums for as long as Dear Sunday has been a band.
- Mason is like a music Yoda. The man can play anything and everything.
- The band fell together very randomly, we were all mates well before this, but it never really clicked for us to start something until one day we kinda just realised and thought hey? We all play something.. let’s have a jam and see what happens!
- We wouldn’t be where we are without the support of our close friends and family supporting us from day one!
What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?
We’d like to think it’s something really classy & expensive, but we would probably just be lying to ourselves lol. I think ‘homeless chic’ probably best describes us right now, but who knows, one day we could be rocking some KISS style costumes.. we love getting super creative with outfits, so don’t rule anything out.
What’s your songwriting process?
Ben is an absolute wizard at this stuff. Usually he just comes to band practice and lets us hear some new lyrics & melodies that he’s been working on (which has been super often lately it’s hard to stay on top of all of the ideas coming in)! After that Eligh will lay down some drums, whatever he feels suits the tracks. From there, Mason (Yoda) gets to work, cleans it all up, and makes the music fit the lyrics. Cal is super good at listening to the rest of us, and finding a bass line that somehow fits the tracks perfectly. Essentially, we all just mess around until something sticks, and we absolutely love the process of writing songs together.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
To be honest, we’d say we really haven’t been a part of the ‘industry’ for long enough to have a good opinion on this, it’s all still super new to us! Maybe, just how saturated the industry, it does feel at times difficult to separate yourself from the rest of the amazing bands out there. At the same time it is a very good way to keep pushing forward and finding creative new ways to really make listeners know that something has the Dear Sunday brand on it.
Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?
Well, our songs we feel are super diverse! We can’t and don’t really wanna throw ourselves into any specific messaging.. it makes it more fun for us to keep producing different stuff! But our music is usually about personal experiences or experiences of close friends, that Ben finds inspiration in writing music about. Being a little bit cryptic is something we love doing, so listeners can resonate however they feel.
