Chris Pidsley – „Daisies“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hi there my name is Chris Pidsley. I’m an independent indie-pop artist originally from Gloucestershire but now based in Tottenham!

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

This is my first EP release as an artist. The songs were recorded during this pandemic in my bedroom and then sending them across to my friend Ross who produced it all. It’s a collection of 5 songs focusing on summer nostalgia and past and present loves. I’m set to release a DIY music video for EP track Skinny which will be the lead single from the release. It was all produced and recorded in my bedroom and think it looks great so can’t wait to release it! I’m also hosting an EP launch show at a local record store on Friday 13th August which will see me play the entire EP live in an intimate setting.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  • I write from personal experiences
  • My main influences include Ed Sheeran, Cavetown and Rex Orange County
  • I try and not stick to one genre and experiment with different sounds
  • I aim to write songs that resonate with others
  • I don’t really know what I’m doing but I love what I do!

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

A basic millennial trying to be edgy! Oversized T-shirts and skinny jeans. I feel actually a pair of skinny jeans is probably what would be associated with me most!

5. Tell us more about your songs! Topics! Message!?

A lot of my songs that I write are about relationships and emotions towards different people. My song Skinny however deviates slightly from this topic. It focuses on body positivity and stems from experiences where I’ve been called too skinny and told to buff up etc. I’m not a particularly sporty guy and music definitely took up more of my time than exercise or “getting buff.” It used to bother me at the time but then I realised I don’t really care what others think and wrote this song about it instead. Hopefully some other skinny boys can relate.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I studied and work as a Graphic Designer so I also love art and design. I create all my own artwork for my releases as well as the majority of promotional assets for my gigs and performances.

7. Being on stage feels like….!

At first quite terrifying not going to lie! But once I start playing that all goes away and I can fall into my songs and then I feel amazing. Not to sound too deep but at that moment I feel pretty indestructible.

8. How did you learn to sing/ to write/ to play??

Both my parents are really musical so they pushed me to learn an instrument at a young age. I started playing guitar when I was 11 after watching the film School of Rock and convincing myself I was going to be a rockstar! I started writing at about 16 when the puberty and teenage angst hit. I never really learnt to sing I just tried to make some kind of semi palatable noise over my own playing! I like to think i’ve improved over the years but I’m no pro!

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

“What’s your favourite song you’ve ever written?”

My favourite song is actually Rosie off of my latest EP. I love these lyrics and the simplicity of the song. Definitely the most personal and favourite of mine.
