Calum Foad’s single ‚High‘ + Exclusive Interview

Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Thank you very much for having me – I always feel like I’m on a Paddy McGuiness game show when anyone asks me to introduce myself. “My name’s Calum, I’m 26 and I’m from Reading!”… I also make synth-pop music and have an unhealthy obsession with the 80s.

Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

I just released a single called ‘High’, which I recorded in LA about 3 weeks before lockdown #1… So I’m immensely grateful that people are now getting to hear it!

Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

  1. I LOVE songwriting sessions that feel more like group counselling, if people haven’t spilled their deepest, darkest secrets by the time we’ve finished – we’ve failed.
  2. I’m a big advocate for mental health – something I used to deliver speeches on in schools – it may take me a while, but I will always reply to people who DM me on the topic.
  3. Contrary to previous press releases, my debut recordings weren’t actually done by Dan Weller – they were instead recorded aged 3 – by my mother, whilst I sang Les Mis songs into a plastic microphone. Broadway here I come!
  4. I’m terrible at counting

What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

Primark – straight up cheap, cheerful, and narrowly avoiding a copyright case.

Do you have bad habits? A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?

I’ve got plenty of bad habits – but I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, if you enjoy something, don’t feel guilty. I do however, religiously eat food that I’m intolerant to – so I guess that counts?

Beside music, do you have any special talents?

My girlfriend will tell you have I have a talent for being able to walk past any number of chores that need doing with complete and blissful ignorance.

Being on stage feels like….!

Sweating. Buckets. People have no idea how hot stage lights are. I’m kidding, of course – it’s the best rush you could imagine.

Must Have – and No-Go in your Wardrobe! – Favorite Fashion Brand and Fragrance?

Must have: Vintage wavey shirt, the more people who’ve owned it, the better.

No go: Cargo shorts… I’ve had literal nightmares about those.

Fashion brand: I honestly don’t buy new clothes, except essentials – so it’s really hard to say because it’s a variety of random defunct European brands from the 80s/90s. I do have a few different All Saints leather jackets though (All Saints, if you see this, get in touch)

Fragrance: Dior – Sauvage

A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Would you like a million dollars?

Yes
