Bayuk – „Head Under Waves“ + Exclusive Interview

1. Hello, thank you for your time, please introduce yourself in a few words!

Hey ! Thanks for the invite! Okay, I’m Bayuk, I make songs and recently released a new one called „Head Under Waves“, which I’m really proud of .. I have hobbies too, but hearing about peoples hobbies is always kinda sad somehow, so yepp – hi there

2. Please give us an update about – new single, new album, tour dates, new videos?!

Yeah so the biggest news is that I made an album and finally finally I can say it out loud that it will be out on August 27th – only two months from now, wow – and it’ll be called „Exactly The Amount Of Steps From my Bed To Your Door“. It’s my second one and it’s been my complete world for the last three years, so needless to say it’s super exciting for me that people will hear it for the first time soon. New Single – good point – as I said it’s called „Head Under Waves“ and it’s a song that took me ages to finish and I like to call it the saddest happy sounding song I’ve ever written. About tour dates – we got a few ones lined up but depending on everything going on right now we’ll see, we plan on playing a little tour beginning of December and some extra shows/festivals.

3. Name 5 things we all should know about you as an artist?!

Wow okay – here we go. First: I never planned on becoming an artist in the first place. I went to university and wanted to make movies, write scripts and all that but then a producer in Berlin heard a demo of a song I wrote with 18 and I realized immediately after setting foot into the studio and recording music, that that’s all I ever wanted to do without even knowing it. Second: I’m color-blind, random fact but I guess something that describes my character in a way, cause often times I’m clumsy and confuse stuff and sometimes I wonder how I get my day done. Okay, Three: My idol used to be (and still is) John Frusciante, especially his solo-albums carried me through my entire youth, heartbreaks and just inspired me to make music close to my heart, giving me courage to write feely stuff I guess. Four: I grew up in a small town in the south of Germany, random but true. And Five: I love to listen to music that other people might call „guilty pleasures“, jogging to „Can You Feel The Love Tonight“ or whatever just makes me happy.

4. What fashion style or brand would best describe your music?

That’s hard. Maybe like really nice college outfits. Like uniforms, although uniforms suck, but that kinda Hogwarts-like pullover with maybe a denim jacket over it and nice beige cotton-pans and cool converse to it. Okay I’m really bad at this, I’ve no idea how this would look. I guess just kinda casual and not too dressed up, not too fond of suits and all that.

5. Do you have bad habits? A guilty pleasure you can’t seem to quit?

So apart from the guilty pleasures in terms of music I love .. yeah I’m sure I got a lot. Probably more of like stuff I’ve developed a habit in doing, that makes no sense. Like recently I started always closing all my apps before opening another one – super annoying habit. Also I eat while standing a lot, I barely sit down and enjoy a meal .. plus of course spending way too much time on the phone. However I’ve developed a good habit too recently – before closing my eyes I try to read good literature, like Thomas Mann or something, even if it’s just two pages or so.

6. Beside music, do you have any special talents?

I’d personally like to believe that I’m okay at playing football. That used to be my biggest passion growing up, before music took over at some point. But even while at university I started playing at a club again on a way too high level for me but it was fun playing alongside these people, who actually played in youth teams of some really big clubs. Also I like writing but ever since realizing that I might not become an author round about 14 or so I never committed to writing stuff on a regular basis.

7. Being on stage feels like….!

Heaven and hell. Can be really both I think. I’ve had moments of complete freedom and just really letting myself fall into the music and have that collective overwhelming experience but I also played some really shitty gigs with just me and my guitar as „support“ for hip hop acts or something. So I guess that’s the beauty of it – it’s a divine place but only because there’s the pressure of delivering and filling it with something special.

8. Must Have – and No-Go in your Wardrobe! – Favorite Fashion Brand and Fragrance?

Love denim jackets, ahm, and just comfy rather slacker like t-shirts. I always thought super colorful stuff is cool, but it doesn’t suit me so rather nature colors I guess. Like sporty shoes, sneakers basically. Brands – difficult, usually I buy second hand stuff by Levi’s or so, recently by Dickies, which I used to wear a lot as a teenager. But yeah, usually I just try to feel good and be able to move in my clothes, if possible vegan clothes. Fragrance – not that I use it too much (also cos it’s super expensive) but Egoist by Chanel is cool I think and „Tacit“ by Aesop.

9. A question you’d like to answer, but never been asked in an interview before?! + Answer pls

Haha okay … so maybe a question like: Which song do you wish you had written yourself:

My answer would be: „I’m Sorry“ by Monta.
